mine are definitely flaking. I believe 2 of them are, one more than the other. Im debating between getting them rechromed and getting Z06's. I dont know of any good places to have them chromed at so im stuck on the decision.

Mine are after 3 years. Of course I've had my car out on salt roads 2 out of 3 winters with them on. Trying to decide on which rims to go with next.

Mine slightly pitted on the inside but the front chrome is perfect. Bought new in Aug 02. Knocking on wood!

Sadly enough it was a common enough problem right out of the box on brand new 2001 SS's from SLP. On 2001's at least. I knew of several cars at that time that they were replaced under warranty. My 2001 included at 2700 miles here in sunny ( no snow/salt ) Florida.

I ordered mine in 01 and they flaked after 3 months of summer use and regular cleaning inside and out. They only flaked on the inside.

So is there a good way to clean these up I just got a set, and they are flaking pretty bad. I don't want to have to get them re-chromed so what can I do, it is mostly on the inside, so I should just be able to sand that down and then polisjh and paint, but what about the little bit on the outside. Is there anything?

Chrome is an "all or nothing" type of deal. Once chrome starts to peel or flake, it's done. There's no way to repair it other than stripping it off and starting over with a fresh plate job. I can guarantee that if you sand the plating on the backside of the spokes down that you will shorten the lifespan of the chrome that's still intact even more. Just leave it alone.

Here they are, I got them yesterday and the chrome is peeling pretty bad on the inside, but the outside of them looks pretty good yet, only minor pitting on them. But I put them on when I got them and took some pictures this morning.

It is a nice change from the stock snowflakes I had on there that you can still see in my signature picture.

Does anyone know how much it would eventually cost me to get these re-chromed, because I love the look of them on my car, I just know that sooner or later it is going to come to the point that I am going to be sick of the peeling and want them to look like new again. Maybe when I can afford to do it, but any ideas right now.

I think I was quoted $125 a wheel when I called a shop once. With that amount you mind as well save up for newer wheels.
