Well if you get a check engine light every time you take it over 4500, then obviously something is not right. If you find out what code it is, that would give you a better idea.

there is a good deal of us who have the pressure drop thing, I get it bad on long trips, car just feels like ***. A mail order tune is probably your best bet moneywise but who knows if that would fix it, maybe it's your cam, what are the specs of your cam and rockers? Best bet is to get it scanned or invest in a scanner to see what actually is going on, hope things work out for ya.

Sounds like O2's and/or tuning. Scan for codes and use that as a starting point.

i wouldn't go to a MECHANIC because he's not going to know your car. Ask someone who specializes in f-bodies because while the basic principle of most cars is the same, each car/manufacture uses a different method for almost everything.

Do not change your oil viscosity. When people say you should run a different oil in different seasons/climates, do not listen to them. Whether it be a 20 degree winter or a 110 degree summer, the operating temperature of your engine will only vary by a small margin, and the manufacture knows this. The engine was built to run on 5w-30, so run 5w-30. It sounds to me like you're just getting excessive knock and need a tune, but i'm not in your car so i can't diagnose it properly. Good luck fixing it and let us know what the problem was.
