Question 2 core 3 core..what's the difference?

Tried searching and not just here but didn't find very simple explanation. TIA

I saw it used as a description of IC measurement, when large cores were not as available as they are today. If people could only get maybe 9Wx6Hx2D cores, they would make the IC by using multiple cores. Thus, 2-core, etc. You can still see it sometimes, and you can usually tell by seeing 1 or more double-seams (core walls) in the middle of an intercooler.
