Default Camaro Tai light Dimple

A buddy of mine has an 02 Z28, and something that has always bothered me is that his tail lights have a dimple in them right infront of one of the bulbs, the furthest out red one I belive. It gets warm there when hes had his tail lights on for a while. Its funny becuase its even on both sides. I have yet to find another camaro in person that has the same tail light/problem. Its probly about 1/2-3/4" deep, and about a 2x3" oval.

He didnt buy the car new off the lot, and its been there for as long as he knows, as he thought it came that way.

There are alot of camaros with it, mine have it. The bulbs get too hot and are too close so they heat up the plastic and melt it. it looks like *** and bother me so much, lol.

I know that blackouts cause this to happen. They trap heat, and slowly melt the lens.

Some camaro's will get it, some won't. It's just a luck of the draw whether you get it or not. It's really common in cars that use blackout covers.

Yep the tail lights are melted as hell on my car, not just a dimple but a DENT. Course I knew that would happen even before I put the tail light covers on so I cant complain.

Yup, I have it too, passenger side. I thought maybe the wrong bulb was used but I guess not. I do have a new tail light housing I'm putting on tomorrow and I'm hoping it does not happen again. Mine is more like a dent as well. It is very obvious and looks horrible. No covers on mine either.

Mine is doing it bad on the passenger side. And it is a dent not just a dimple. Glad to see that my car isn't the only one doing it.

It is from people who had "tailshades" previously on the car.

The thing is they weren't like that when I bought the car in 2005. I have never had blackouts on the car since I have had it.

The GTS blackouts that I have on my Camaro did it to my taillights. Same thing happened on my '96 also.

I've never had blackouts on mine and I've owned it for over 2 years. Mine got the dimple last fall. I just swapped the bad one out last weekend. I changed all the bulbs in it as well just to be sure. We'll see if it happens again.

I have the dimples and tail light black outs. I think the extra heat from having the covers helped out the dimpling.
