I ordered some wheels similar to the evo's but in chrome made by RPM (turns out they are on back order so I think I am going to cancel my order). I really like chrome as it is really easy to clean and low maintinance but evo's arent made in chrome for our cars. I was wondering does the Hypersilver have a clear coat over it or are they polished? I know the lip is polished. HOW HARD THEY ARE TO CLEAN? I really want some low maintinance wheels that will look great. Any input would be great. Thanks.

I saw them I dont think they look as good. I also emailed the guy a while back and the lip is only like an inch. The Evo's or RPM I was gonna get have 2 inch lip up front and 3 inches in the back. I really just want to know if the Evo's are high maintinance wheels?

I also ordered from this same company and was pleased with the service. Hope this helps.

The Evos' are clearcoated on the face of the wheels which makes them easier to clean, but there are still a lot of small spaces to get into.

Those are the ones I ordered except I ordered 18's. I ordered 18 x 8's for up front and 18 x 9's for the back (Widest they make in 18's). The 18 x 8's are on back order and I dont want 18 x 9's in the front.

Can you just use some spray cleaner to get in the hard to get to places and just use a rag to clean them up? Then spray it off with water.

Evos are made in chrome you just have to call Hp themselves and they will make them any how you want them. Make sure to call them direct. I saw some on a trans am that were orange powder coated centers with a chrome lip on them that they did for a guy.

I will call them. I saw some evo's one ebay from a vendor that had a chrome lip. I know they make them in chrome just not in the bolt size for our cars.

The Chrome ones were on the site for a while. But they told me a few weeks ago that they didnt have them in our lug pattern. Maybe they realized the market and the demand for chrome rather than hypersilver also the fact that us LSX people love to drop mad money into our cars.

BTW there are two options for painted Evo's:

1. If you get them in a Hypersilver or Hyperdark finish, the entire wheel is clearcoated.

2. You can get them in the "Lightning S.S" version where the face of the wheel is painted with the hyper finish and the lip of the wheel is stainless steel. The stainless steel looks as good as chrome and doesn't require clearcoat but makes the wheel slightly heavier.

Yeah it's the same as with the HPR5's. They're just now getting around to making them with the 120mm bolt spacing in chrome. Kinda pisses me off because I bought my HPR5's last year when they didn't have them in chrome and started polishing mine:

There's a tad bit more to making these wheels bling than just stripping the clearcoat off and hitting it with a Mother's Powerball...

Thanks. I got them widened by these guys:

www.weldcraftwheels.com

$200 per rim. They charge slightly more if your wheels are chromed, because they have to strip the chrome in that area off before they can weld it. They have no limit on how wide they can go.

I got mine through this guy:

Shoot him an e-mail and ask him to order you a set in the size you want. Worked for me.

How long did it take for you to get them?

It was like 3-4 days before the seller got them in. I didn't get them shipped directly to me because I had already planned to have them widened so I just had the seller ship them directly to Weldcraft. It was like 12 days from the time I ordered them till the time they showed up at my door, so factoring in Weldcraft's time with them, 3-4 days seems about how long it took for the seller to get them.

I'm pretty sure the lip on the Evo's and the HPR5's is the same machined look or am I wrong? Im thinking about polishing up my lips and seeing how that looks, let me know, I would hate to scuff these wheels up.

BTW, are you almost done with yours?

If only they made an 18x9.5 evo wheel....if I bought some evos I would have them widened to 18x10 and just put 295s all the way around.

The original finish was Hypersilver. The wheel I posted pics of is the only one I have polished so far. It took about 30 hours to get it that way. Reason it took so long is because since the wheels have alot of straight edges and sharp angles I didn't want to risk messing up any of the symmetry by using air tools to sand down the rough cast. Underneath the paint these wheels have a cast finish that's about as rough as an LT1 intake manifold. (It's way too easy to end up with a "Funhouse Mirror" effect when using a die grinder to sand straight, flat surfaces.) So it was sanding with sandpaper by hand the whole way. I'm shooting for mid-late summer to have the other 3 done. I think what I'll do on the next wheel is do a before/after photo session to give people an idea of what these wheels look like in raw unfinished form with the paint stripped. It's quite a transformation.
