PROBLEM WITH MY BOYS MUSTANG
MY FRIENDS 302 MUSTANG POLICE INTERCEPTOR WONT PASS EMISSIONS. IT HAS AN OVERSIZED CAM AND A MSD IGNITION. I DONT KNOW SH-T ABOUT THESE MOTORS, SO IF ANY MUSTANG OWNERS HAVE SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIND AND POSSIBLY FIX THIS PROBLEM IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

How big of a cam? Does it have cats and the smog pump still? I know I have to lean my car out, turn down the timing, and bump up the idle for it to pass Texas emissions. Or at least the times it passed with out a little convincing$$.

Re: PROBLEM WITH MY BOYS MUSTANG
I am a ASE/ IM-240 trained emissions tech. List the year of car size of motor & cam . The condition of cats (new/stock?) & brand (if hi-flows) Is air pump operational, along with air divert soleniods? (may have to feed air direct into cats) Where is it goin' for emissions Illinios? or Indiana? i.e. is it the dyno drive trace test? I will offer what help I am able. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: PROBLEM WITH MY BOYS MUSTANG
You definately must have cats on to pass. Having a functional smog pump helps also. It sounds like it will all come down to the size of the cam. If it has too much overlap, then unburnt fuel will pass through the exhaust system easier, which is bad. You will have to find out what cam he has. Pretty much anything bigger than the E303 cam will not pass emmissions, or at least not without some $$$.

Re: PROBLEM WITH MY BOYS MUSTANG
Put timing at 10 degree's.Turn idle up with screw to 1000rpm and pull an airline off the manifold and put a small screw in it(so it leaks)
That is on top of the cats(stock are best)and smog pump.
I got my old Blown stang to pass with nasty Cams that way.

(to cats)Not sure is indy doing dyno/IM-240 tests or regular idle/ high idle testing?? If it's IM-240 ask them to pre-condition vehicle before test. Even when it's waiting to be tested keep the r's up to keep them cats hot. Another option get the stipulations for a wavier & go that route.
