No it's not cause of the cam, your burning or leaking oil somewhere. Time to figure out what it is. Could be a bunch of things, valve seals, piston rings, valve cover gaskets leaking, oil pan gasket.

First is it smoking start up or smoking on acceleration or deceleration? Plugs clean? How low was it? Correct me if i'm wrong but you'd have to be pretty low for the dummy light to come on don't you? I know our TA burns the normal quart between changes and i've never seen the dummy light come on.

I think the light comes on when you forget to reset it after changing the oil. It did the same thing to me last time and I just reset it.

How many quarts did you fill up with when you did the change? Burning 2 quarts in 1000 miles is alot of oil. My block is porous and i dont leak that much. You can pull of your TB and see if it has oil on the backside of it.

Maybe he didn't put enough oil in it? Possibly a combination of the oil light being on for the oil change and not putting enough oil in it when he changed it?

No I have not...

I have never done it, and got the info I need pretty much. Instead of paying some grease ball 60 bucks I told myself that I am gonna just do it myself. Going to use mobil 1 10w30 and a acdelco filter... Gonna do it over spring brake.

5 qts in the lt1 with the standard filter brings you right up to the full line on the dipstick if you use the longer truck filter, 5 qts should bring you half way between the add and full line
