Default Is LS1Edit Resellable?

If you buy the single VIN locked version of LS1Edit and you get rid of the car, can you resell Edit or is it forever locked to that VIN? If not, could you explain how the VIN locking works? Do you give them the VIN when you order it?

Who ever buys edit off of you will have to send it in and have their VIN number added. I don't know how much it costs though. Something like a $50 reburn fee and $150 for each VIN. Maybe someone else will know for sure how much it is.

Maybe you can find someone with the same year/model car then swap computers and edit with them.

you'll have to send it back, you can't use the editor on more than one car with only one vin.

once you upload with edit, it locks your vin.

LS1Edit has the availability to have up to 4 PCMs on a single box. When you buy LS1Edit they open up a "slot" for one PCM. When you hook it up to your car it reads your PCM for it's VIN # and locks to it after you accept the agreement to have it locked to the car you are trying to flash. Once it does this it is permanently locked to the VIN of the PCM you just locked it too.

LS1Edit doesn't pre-program it for a certain VIN#. They simply free up one of the four slots available on the box and when you get ready to flash the car you bought the additional slot for it will lock down to that car's VIN from the info it gets from the PCM.

Sure, you can sell your LS1Edit to the person that bought the vehicle the LS1Edit box is locked too. But then you'll have to buy a new box for your new car assuming the person you sold the car to won't be nearby enough for you to add another slot to the box so you could add your new PCM to it.

Would it be possibe to use LS1edit on two computers that have the same VIN? Say a guy had two LS1 cars and had the same VIN in both computers could you use LS1 edit on both cars?

Once it locks to your vin it programs it into the convertor box.

I personally feel LS1 Edit should be hacked and passed out on a P2P network. So wish me luck in finding a way to do it. If people can hack business servers, why is LS1 Edit an exception ? Tunning your car for only $600 dollars, does anyone else feel this is a rip off? Maybe I'm just saying what everyone else is thinking. If i get it done, I will let you guys on it .

Next off, it isn't the software that is locked down, it is the hardware. Getting LS1Edit software is the easy part, the hard part would be to reverse engineer the hardware and get that working. Look around for an LS1 $550 for tuning isn't all that bad. I got a quote of 500-700 to tune my car on the dyno one tmie. So instead I pay $550 and can tune as needed, with buying dyno time when needed.

Hi Folks
I have the new upgraded Autotap with EFI Live Pro. I am will to bet that the Autotap adapter works with LS1 Edit. I would have to believe that you might have to write a small program that feed back a VIN # when qued by the SW but the connector/interface on the car is the same and so is the COM port(RS 232 bus). the Autotap device is bi-directional. I am will to try it.

Anything that can be built by man can be reverse engineered by man, so yes it could be hacked and I could do it, I'm an experianced electrical engineer. But I don't want to, that's too much work. I just want to buy a copy of the damn thing but since Carputing doesn't accept charge cards, I have to wait for a cash transfer to Paypal; it's already been four days.
