Default QTP Headders installed... info for others

Hey all.

I installed my headders with a buddy. i've got some photos of corse.

The first is of how high we had to lift it. a pair of jack stands with blocks underneeth. my friend Matt is standing next to my machine. he is about 5'11-6' tall, to give you an idea of how high it had to be.

Next, here is a kind of crappy picture of the headders installed from underneeth.

The driver's side was a bugger, but went in with a little... effort . Had to remove the oil filter to get it in, otherwise we did the entire install without removing valve covers or any of the related junk.

The passanger side was easy to get it, but after bolting it up, we saw that it was plain ol' leaning up against the frame(?) under the car.

Well, a Saw-z-all and a hammer fixed that. when i take the car into the shop to get the duals run, i'll ask them to tack the metal closed. you can see what I mean in the photos below.

We pretty much had to round the corner off there. the drivers side cleared the K-Member just great. then, other then the Exhaust pipe it self, that part of the frame(?) was the only thing we cut... becides our arms, hands, knuckles, and fingers while getting in to those tight places... come on General, round off those edges after casting!

While I was at it, i put in a torque arm also. i'm waiting for my Panhard bar relocation kit and adjustable Panhard bar, so I can make more room for the exhaust guys to run the duals over the rear end.

anywhoo. thats my story. Wanna hear it running open pipes? you've all probably herd this before:

Just installed Hooker Headers today on my friends T/A, never thought the drivers side header would go in but it did. Those QTPs make my SLP LTs look like ****, they are really worth the money.

I had mine tuned after I put my headers in....just for the hell of it, and it wasn't really off at all.

haven't gotten it tuned yet, its still in the air... but yea, as far as quality, I it was like getting a punch in the face when compairing prices, but once I got them in the mail and actually felt them and looked at them in person, it was like "no big deal." the build quality makes it worth the coin.

that, and unlike the SLPs, the headders are currently not the lowest part of my car!

When I installed mine we used a lift and I'm glad we did. I don't think I would have felt safe with the car that high on jack stands.

I didn't have the problem with the headers hitting the frame like you did though. I think that's the 1st time I've seen that problem

Exhaust is now complete.

I have all my images hosted on my personal site as well as a video clip (DivX)here:

http://www.hybridmuscle.com/

its just easier refering to the images, though if anyone has an issue with the external link, i can put them in the forum
images are all named, but there is a first attempt at exhaust, from me telling them I wanted to be able to remove the headders easily if needed, then me changing my mind, and having a true x-pipe constructed.

There is one video at the end, and you can listen to the audio without downloading any codecs, however to see it you'll need a divx codec ( www.free-codecs.com , the k-lite mega codec pack )

I am having the same problem. I gotta' say I' m a little PO' d about it. I didn' t have this problem with the old QTPs, and I didn' t pay as much as I did to have to cut, bang, or damage my car, to get these things to fit. Regardless, I guess I have to wait to see what kind of resolution I can get, because I don' t want to have to damage my car around replacement parts. I am sure it will turn out to be okay. They have been great in the past.

Thanks for the info, Zeeboid. Nice post!

For the sake of clarity, these were 1&3/4" QTP headers, correct?

Yes, that is correct... 1-3/4 with 3" exhaust going until right after the cats, where it goes down to 2 1/2 with glass packs at the rear and 3" tips.

Those are beautiful headers! Is that a common problem with the QTP's hitting the fame of the car?

That is BS, Buy Kooks, I installed them by myself in driveway on 6ton jackstands. SUPER EASY. I would never take a sawzall to the FRAME of the car. Or anypart of the car.
