Anyone remember the original Brera coupe/hatch concept from a few years back? It packed a Maserati V8 that drove the rear wheels. Well when Alfa Romeo announced that the Brera would make it to showroom floors minus the RWD (with FWD and optional Q4 AWD instead) and the Maser V8 (a 3.2L 260hp V6 is tops for now until a rumored GTA version arrives) in order to cut the price tag from over 100k to the 30-40k range, there were those who were happy as well as those who were saddened. As awesome as a 260hp V6 and AWD are, there are those who were anxious to Alfa to build a true 100k sports car.

Enter the 8C Competizione. For those who were saddened that the 2002 Brera concept would be a bit less hot than it's concept forbear, Alfa showed this show stopper in 2003. Again it used a Maser powertrain with a true stick and clutch to drive the rear wheels. And on top of that it was even sexier and curvier than the angular and futuristic (albeit still sexy) Brera. Well Alfa initially announced that they wanted to build the 8C in limited numbers to satisfy those who wanted the Brera to be an all out sports car. However over the past 2 years or so, talk of the 8C died down and people began to wonder whether or not the car would be built.
Now on to the point of this thread. According to Alfa Romeo, a limited run of 500 cars will be produced with a 440hp V8 surrounded by a carbon fiber body/chassis. All I can say is that I'm actually glad the Brera became the baby coupehatch/roadster for Alfa because it freed up room for this hot piece of automobile. Man is this thing sexy. I love the retrotech design that takes cues from past Alfas and twists them into an all new design. HOT HOT stuff IMO.

On top of that, Alfa showed another hot concept this year based on a heavily modified 159 chassis. Meet the mid engined Diva. It looks like it uses an inline 6 (from where i have no idea) mounted transversely and probably driving the rear wheels. Very very sexy. Alfa is definitely on a roll when it comes to automotive design these days. All the more reason to bring the marque back to the US.
