You have the LT1 knock sensor right now and need to change it to an LT4 sensor. There are 2 parts you need to do the conversion. One is in the computer. You pull the ecm and there are 2 screws holding a door on. I think they are t-15, but I'm not sure. Pull the door and change the chip inside there to the LT4 version. Reinstall door and computer.

Next, on the pass side of the block there is a round sensor that screws into the engine. You need to pull this and change it to the LT4 one as well. Wait for the car to cool and try to have quick hands because you will loose a lot of coolant doing this swap.

You can get both parts from the dealer and I don't remember it being a very expensive mod, under $50.

Yeah, probably nothing. I know the reason most folks change it is to desensitize the knock module for roller rockers so it won't pull timing thinking it's detonating.

since when did you have to change the knock sensors themselves to the lt4 units for the Knock Module to work.................

I thought the actual sensors were the same and all you needed to replace was the knock module.

I dont see why you couldn't. If set up properly, I don't see the knock sensor posing a problem. People tend to switch to the LT4KM because it's said to pickup true knock. i.e it's not as sensitive as the stock LT1KM, so it won't interpret exhaust or valvetrain noise as knock.

LEAVE the Knock sensor!!!!!!!

no need for any changes. I have ran every thing from 14PSI to 150 N20 on my stock sensors!

It is for safety

With out it your Engine is open to detonation and broken pistons.

DO NOT put a 96-97 Knock sensor in your car!
