Street Racing & Kill Stories - Killed a 5.0 on highway

Me and my buddy are drivin my 1997 camaro z28, auto tranny... were on the highway when all of the sudden a very loud 5.0 mustang flies by ( foxbody ). He must of been doin around 120 - 130 because i was doin about 85 90 and he looked like he was really flyin. I punch it, the camaro downshifts and i start catchin him, im doin about 140 now and im catchin him fast ( highways were completely empty ) i finally just blow his doors off.. im guessing he was still on the throttle just becasue it sounded so damn loud like it was at high revs... I slow down and we do the 3 honks and i pull about 6-7 cars on him up to 135... i thought it was a pretty good first kill for the Z...

Stanger, could you imagine taking your car to 130. I bet it would be pegging 6500rpm with the 4.10s. I didnt think top speed racing was ever a 5.0 strong point unless heavily modded.

It would do 130 quite well, 5th is a useable racing gear in my car at 100+ lmao

I ate what sounded like a fairly modded 94-95 5.0 on the highway the one night. Beast Power :)

i love racing 5.0s they are a beast to 70ish, then the ls1 just takes over

SS4Luck, the reason is that in a stock 5.0 power drops pathetically after 5K rpm. Until then they do have mad torque for their displacement.

Geez I must live in the wrong area or maybe it's just the snow and weather up here but in NEPA. The only 5.0 I see anymore are rusted out junk who can't get out of their own way.

I love how loud these little 5.0s get, ive seen 13 second foxes sound as loud as 9 second fox :jest:

with a 5.0 sound means NOTHING, some 9-second cars whisper and some 15 second cars scream...same with looks, I will have to say, the 5.0 Fox is the largest wild-card out there imho.

No lying there, i see a painted up looking stang that's loud i usually don't worry about it means the guy is more interested in looks then performance. I see a primered one like mine i get alittle more worried, cause the guy prolly thinks like me performance before looks, just get some straight body panels and slap some primer on it and it's good to go :jest:. I've had better races outta crappy looking 5.0's then outta the pretty ones lol around here that seems to be the norm though.

Good kill on the 5.0 though sometimes you get lucky and run into a fast one although i have yet to run into one on the street here :devil:

The only 5.0 I ever ran had SHIT for paint and our cars were DEAD MATCHED. For the record, my rims are stock and my paint was $500 :) I ran outta money after the driveline and suspension :(

It definatly looked like it was stock paint but that thing wasnt slow i pulled on it but not as much as i would if the stang was stock...

btw what spring setup do you have that leans back like that? Drag Launch?

??? what do you mean? I have stock suspension other than drag shocks and 4-way struts and tubular upr/lwr control arms and a strut tower brace. You referring to less wheel well gap?? THat is 245/60/15 vs. 225/60/15 up front.
