Default K&N filter+GM high tech magazine article question

i was reading today in my new issue of GMHT where they put a CAI type KN filter instead of a lid on an LS1 and they said they gained 30HP from this mod alone, i did some search buton excersies before i bought my SLP lid and it said a lid was best for flow and HP, what gives?

I have seen test on this K&N FIPK kit, the flow numbers sucked, but they advertised for good power. I will stick with my SLP airlid

The K&N fipk flows great but is recomended for functional ram air and ss hoods. They probally tested it on one of those with a huge fan blowing in it. I have one and will say that it probally is equal to a k&n with lid and smooth bellows. I do love the way it sounds when I mash the gas though. Just my $.02 worth.
BTW I don't believe either will give you 30 hp on a stock car. Maybe 10-15.

You cant believe anything you read in the magazines anyway. Remeber it the ads the pay for the mag. So they kinda write what they want anyway.

Default K&N

I had to clean my MAF when I over oiled my K&N So I bought a paper replacement until I could oil and blow it clean with a air hose. You can't really feel any difference I personally run the K&N though.

that alone makes everything after that statement null and void.

Don't ever use an air hose on a cotton/mesh filter. You'll ruin it. Oil it, then set it on a paper towel or newspaper for a few hours, it'll wick all the excess oil out of it.

i love K&N, but that doesnt sound right at all,i dont see 30hp from that happening, and i would have to agree with u on that one i think a lid would have better air flow, plus it looks better to me.

Basically, JRP is saying after you read the 30hp you should've just not kept reading. Thats an insane # for an induction piece like that.

Will it add power? Yeah

Will it add 30hp worth? Negative
