ok tired of 2.73s
yes its official i hate my 2.73s, its holding me back major the car wants to go but the gears wont let it take off like a bat outta hell. my tuner after i got my tune up and all that done said my 2.73s were really holding my car back and he recommended that i step up to 3.73s, how much of a difference does it make really, and after i get enough money i hope to get a fuddle racing 3500 stall to go with my gears. who here can tell me about there step up from 2.73s to 3.73s???? i want the whole awsome story and all the tire smoking details, does it make you slam back in your seat??

I can't tell you about 3.73's but I am pleased with my 3.42's. It made a huge difference off the line and also at a 45-65 kickdown roll. Traction wasn't an issue with the 2.73's, but now it's my main issue I need to get sorted out before doing any more mods to up the power level. If you plan on running drag radials then 3.73's with a 3500 stall will work great for you if you can get it to hook up. It all comes down to traction. Hope that helps some......

so do you think i would be just as happy with 3.42s, this is my daily driver and i plan on taking it to the track one of these days but dont want to get killed on gas mileage. i heard a stall is the best bet, shouldnt you have good gears first in order for the stall to work effectively?? i mean dont they build torque converters to match your mods and gears??

If you are interested in a stall give the manufacturer a call and they'll be able to point you towards the best one for your application. I would like to get a fuddle racing 3400 2.1 STR, but with the traction problems I'm having I think it would make it a lot worse off the line. Granted, I don't run drag radials--had a couple bad experiences in the rain and it's my daily driver. I am quite pleased with the 3.42's. When my 10 bolt goes and I get a 12 bolt I will again get the 3.42's. It's a good compromise. I do have a dead spot between 80-100 from a roll <bottom of third>, but I can live with that as I don't roll race starting off that high. First gear is great, second is good for around town and highway, third runs up to 125-128ish, so running into OD isn't an issue. I'd go gears first <if you plan on doing them anyway> then getting the converter to match. My mileage didn't decrease as much as expected, I still get around 21mpg if I behave, and it drops down to 18 when I'm beating on it. I lost about 2mpg roughly. RPM's are roughly 2500 cruising at 80mph.

if i was you, i would go with 3.42, instead of 3.73. expeacely when its your everyday driver. just me going from a 2.73 to a 3.42, it cut about 50 miles of gas out of a full tank. like before i changed i would average about 320-330, but now, im lucky to get 300. 3.73 is a great gear for six speeds, but i wouldnt go with it on a A4. but its your car.

how much of a difference did the 3.42s make for you, i heard they arent to far off the 3.73s anyways. i am just tired of stomping the gas and the car not jetting off like my friends with the 3.42s, plus im more of a dead stop race guy start off the line or low mile per hour roll thats where you seperate the men from the boys. 2.73s suck and need to go if i go with the 3.42s what stall should i get??? a 3500 stall with whatever STR fuddle says.

After my gear install and hand held tuning, I cut 2 tenths off my e.t. After proper tuning, I've managed to cut a total of over 4 tenths off now.

well i am wanting to make my car a weekend car hopefully but our new house isnt built yet and no place to park it since my mom gets the garage and the harley gets the other spot, but i want gears so badly and since i only pay car payments it shouldnt matter about gas prices anyways. how about traction for those with torque converters and 3.73s i know the guy above said he was having traction problems with his 3.42s and torque converter.

I'd just put a 4.10 rear end in my SS and it drives alot better with it but, I also have two more forward gears so I don't know what the A4 would do with that gear behind it.
