Depends on the year, research it. If it runnin like crap, it probably won't have to do with the dowell. If it is too long, it would break the Opti.

When we put the cam in on my 95, we had to shorten the pin a little bit, but not much. Ask a GM Dealership, the might have that spec. The guy that helped me build mine used to work for GM, so we had all the info needed.

what cam is it and did you get a tune done with the cam swap??

the 94 nonvented setup has a dowel pin length of .300"-.320"

the 95+ vented setup has a dowel pin length of .620" to .650"

it could be a few things. when you replaced the opti did the opti drive gear come out with it and you had to reinstall it?? i know it's splined and keyed, but it can go in incorrectly. i know because i've done it. if the dowel pin was too long, it could damage the opti, or make it difficult/impossible to install correctly.

have u ever set the lash before doing it for this swap?? are you certain you did it correctly?? are you certain the spark plug wires are in the correct places on the opti?
