ditch the PCV... don't let it soak your nice new intake!

I was thinking about the PCV system. I did find oil in my old intake & TB.

You don't have to get rid of the PCV.It actually does something being on there :)

yes.. it fills the intake with oil. It does nothing a breather won't accomplish.

I've seen breathers at work. I'll keep the PCV. Thinking about the Z06 mod?

Keep reading :) It does more than a breather.

No thanks.. I'll be ripping that junk off and putting a metco on. No way in hell with the way I change oil it going ot matter. The oil in the intake.. a way bigger problem IMO.

I know there is some sort of upgrade to an LS6 PCV system.

That along with a catch can still gets oil into the intake. The only wao to stop the oil vapors from getting in the intake and glazing it over is to not have the fumes be routed back into the motor. I know about teh emmisions blah blah.. but I think that once you've out a cam in a car, you're pretty much throwing that out the window IMO. Yes a breather will aloow moisture into the motor, like it allows teh vaprors to escapt the crankcase as pressure is developed, but if you change the oil like I do, about 4 times a year, and that is with about 2500 miles a year on the car, it's probably of no concern.

Yah, I change the oil every 3 months regardlsee of the need.

It has been said that the PVC aids in sealing the rings. If you have a bad consumption problem, hook up a catch can and/or convert to the LS6 valley cover/PCV system.

if you have a consumption problem go to the dealer and ask for the truck pcv valve it has a smaller hole than the f body one and is listed as a "fix" by GM, i did a catch can first and it helped some but not that much i did the pcv and it helped ALOT

If Gary had waited for me I would have gone to Don's yesterday.

But then the intake would not be on the car. :emb:

For the PCV it is important run run them.Alot of people don't and thats fine but there is more power with them. This is why alot of the fast race cars run a vaccuum pump or a one way valve into the exhaust. The vacuum pulls a seal on the rings. We gained 80rwhp on one of our Stangs by just swaping on a vacuum pump.Yes,this is a pump on a race car but still has a similar purpose :)

As Chef said the new truck style valve works great. We sometimes use that with a dual chamber catch can setup which pretty much eliminates all oil consumption through the intake.

Intake was off the car friday night. No way to drive it to your house. :( If it was on I would have been about 20 min behind Gary. :drive:

You could have done the intake and been 20 min behind Gary. I took 2+ hours to do it. :emb: Had to take it off again after finishing it. I for got the Vaccume hose on the back. Tha FAST has it in a different position than the LS6. :emb:

pcv valve from what truck? thanks
I actually just changed my oil last week and decided it was the perfect time to make that mod so I could see how much better the consumption rate improved after a fresh fill. You want part number 12572717. I think it's used on all newer LSx engines. The jury is still out on whether it will be an improvement, but hey, it was $7, 2 minutes to install and you should be changing it once in a while anyway. :)
