Me and a few other friends were out tonight, basically looking for a race for me. Pretty much wanting to race everything since I got the car finished, lol. We threw Nittos on it today and it seemed to be hooking very well for the street.
The kid with the 1996 TA wussed out and never came out. Some excuse about his clutch being shot or something. We were in a parking lot and saw a couple foxbody mustangs haning out so we walked over. One of them was a primered notchback with slicks and skinnies. When I asked about it the guy was a bit sarcastic, obviously lying about what it had and saying that it "runs pretty good". I asked him if he wanted to race and he asked what I had. When I told him a 2002 Z28, he said no. I said cool and if they changed their minds we'd be hanging out. A couple minutes later they come over and say that their friend will race me, so I ask what he has and they say a 1970 Nova with MT radials and a 355. I accepted and we headed out to meet him.
The car turned out to be just like they said, with a built 355, turbo 350, 3200 stall, 4.10 gears, and Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. We went to line up and were supposed to have a flagger, but he didn't show, so we had trouble getting started. We lined up and tried just going, but he jumped and I didn't, so we stopped and re-lined up. The second time, I gave him the jump (a bit more than I wanted) and then I launched easy. He probably got out at least 3 cars on me before I started pulling him in. I was reeling him in fast, but his car was definitally not slow. I ended up passing him and beating him in the 1/4 mile by 3/4 of a car. It was a very good race. It was obvious that I had the faster car, but his wasn't slow and with him getting the jump, it was very close.
After, we hung out a while and the guys were very cool. We talked about our cars and what we had, and what we planned to do, etc. They kept telling me that they couldn't believe how good my car ran, and how stock it looked, lol. I was extremely happy with the results. They gave me their number and said to call them and we can try to get a more even race, so it looks like a rematch is definitally in the cars They also said that at some point they want to do a little more work and then rematch me, so I told them that I'd definitally be up for that.
Basically an awesome night, with good racing and cool people!
