Default Fuel Economy after Cam Swap

Just curious on everyones fuel usage AFTER a cam swap.

I just threw a hot cam into my 2001 WS6, and drove from Orlando to Daytona. Normally this consumes around 1/4 tank of gas.

After the cam swap for the first drive... it used less than 1/8.

This makes absolutely no sense... as I figured it would have used MORE fuel. Instead, the reverse is occuring.

Is this normal? Or should I be looking into something????

I recently installed a 218/224 114 cam, & lost about 10% mileage, w/o tuning.

I did a 218/.563/114 in November and I have not been able to tell any difference at all in fuel economy. (stock tuning)
