Default Single digits and a 6 speed

Any body in here break in to the 9's or better on a t-56. And if so was the trans built, or was it stock with just a clutch.

I need some inspiration on this topic, or I might have to go with an automatic.

Plenty of Forced Induction guys have done this. I know Lingenfelter makes a Turbo package whose 6 speed was pulling consistant high 9s. You can also talk to MightyMouse. He's running solidly in the 9s with a T56. He told me he had a shop beef his T56 up a little. I think he said somewhere around $1500. It's a hell of a lot cheaper than your most basic auto setup. I'm sure there's a few 8 second manuals out there, but none come to mind. 9's is definitely acheivable though.

Best of luck,
Mike

Matt Harlan back in the day used one, when he went ~10.0

Alan Futural went into the 9's with a solid roller 346.

Going that fast in a 6 speed your gona run into problems of the driver keeping up with the shifting, tearing through clutches, and a lot of other things. Not saying that it cant be done, just the people that go that fast go for something more reliable.

Taner on this site has been I believe in the 9.40's with his T56..... 399 ci LT1 motor with a lot of juice...... And there are a couple of others on this site alone that still row the gears to 9's...

AFAIK, there is no f-body that has gone 8's with a T56..... Might be a Viper that has done it but I can't be 100% sure...

My car "should" go high 9's now (last year I was only .14 away, and have since dropped back to 4.30 gears and added a Wolfe rear drag bar). My tranny isn't what I'd consider "built". The only aftermarket mods are pro shifting 2, 3, and 4, and a steel 3-4 fork. About $350 worth of stuff. I've also removed the 5-6 gearset for weight reduction. It's certainly not a daily driver tho.

You can get billet mainshafts, not sure about input shafts though. I think Taner was or is doing the GForce gear set (which is stronger than the stock gear set, but more expensive).

Don't ya love "should go" statements? Only one way to find out. I'll hit the track... hopefully soon. Our local track sucks though (for fast cars), so I think I'm going to have to travel to do it.

t-56 rebuilds will rebuild the 6 speed with g force gears and a whole bunch of other goodes for 4k, it's either this or an unreliable 4l60e because nothing else will fit in a vette without 10k worth of fabrication.

Good statement and I have to agree. I don't want to discourage you either, but damn I can only see a car that fast with a M6 being such a bitch! But I'm not speaking from experience or anything so i couldn't tell ya how it'd work out. All I know is that you'd have to shift so damn fast and breakage/clutches would definately add up quick.

If I stick with the m6 I will have it built. rpm transmissions have built some good trannies, but the clutch will be the biggest concern after the rebuild. since it will be a street car either the clutch will have too much grip for the street, or not enough for the track. Or with t-56 rebuilds can do the whole trans with g-force gears that have held 1300 hp to the wheels. rpm's rebuild is about 2k, and t-56's rebuild is about 4k. But then again it still wouldn't be as consitant as an automatic.
