about an 1", 1-1/2" maybe 2" max. Friend of mine installed an intake sump setup, so he did the cutout mod for tank access and it's not much room so be careful. What are you mounting, have my curiousity.

keep a fire extinguisher handy, maybe go with a shorter sheetmetal screw, 3/4" would be fine.

1/2" at the closest point--just replaced the fuel pump through there and I measured everything. It was really difficult to cut through without hitting the tank.

Better safe than sorry... if you're putting screws above where the tank is, drop the tank.

Inch long screws WILL go through the tank. I was thinking 1/4"-1/2" of clearance. It's snugged up to that sheet metal pretty good.

Yea, its VERY close. I just did my fp back in the fall. I would have put the n2o bottle where the spare tire goes in my own opinion.

I ran some 1" metal screws threw there today and I didnt feel it hit anythign else except for one screw :-( I dont know if I punctured the tank but I'm gunna check it out ASAP.

but they all worked good though and I didnt feel it try and dig threw any other metal so I thin it will be alright.....

I hope :-/

I really don't think that sheet metal screws are a good idea for holding down a nitrous bottle. I don't think it would pass tech anywhere. If the screws pull out it could be fatal for you and anyone that is riding with you.
Not my business, but I would hate to see someone get hurt over $1.00 worth of grade 8 bolts.

Take Care,

Daren

I would agree with Gizmo, IMO to do a nitrous hold down bracket right, you need washers on the backside, or even better, strips of 1/8" metal. Sheet metal screws pull out way to easily... and once those holes get a little wallered out, they're useless for holding stuff down.
