Default master cylinder problems

i am helping a buddy of mine do a m6 swap on his automatic 94 vette. we have just about everything in and now we are trying to bleed the hydraulics. before i got here today he said he put fluid in the master cylinder and it ran through the lines. when i got here we put more fluid in and pulled a vaccum on the bleeder valve of the slave cylinder and pumped the clutch pedal and nothing. then we tried bleeding it like brake lines...nothing. we cant get the cylinder to draw fluid into it. any help or ideas would be really helpful thanks
