"service engine soon" light came on

i dont have an owners manual.what does it mean when the "service engine soon" light comes on? thanx

The car is throwing a "code" telling you somethings wrong - bring it somewhere like Autozone and they'll read it for free, then post the code. You can download a pdf owners manual at http://shbox.com/pdf/manuals.html

You can also rent those scanners and take them home with you... you just make a (large $180) deposit and they refund it when you bring it back.

or just have them plug it in at the store tell you the code, see what the code is and fix it.
