Default SLP lid vs. stock SS lid

Newbie here.

I just bought a 2000 SS. All stock. I am wondering if there would be any benefit to replacing the stock intake lid with an aftermarket SLP lid? or should I just keep the factory setup? Any clearance issues with the SLP lid and the SS hood? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Depends. Did your SS come with some kind of blackwing lid? My SS came factory with a plain baffled air lid like would be on a Z28. I went ahead and replaced it with the SLP lid. Perfect fit, and the best price at the time. Looks pretty sharp, too. That's about the only piece I'd ever let myself purchase from SLP other than OEM SS replacement items like wheels, mats, etc.

True, get the lid. I'ts a direct fit. It also makes the engine bay appear clean, and not as cluttered. Probably one of the most easiest aftermarket installs as well; it might take 30 minutes.

If you stock lid has the baffles then I would recommend ditching it for an aftermarket lid.

Definately get a new lid. I would reccomend getting an MTI lid though rather than the SLP lid because my SLP, aswell as many others rubs my hood and it looks really bad. I dont think any other lids besides the SLP have this problem...I could be wrong though.

My SLP lid fits like a glove. Maybe I just got lucky. It's the best fitting lid I've seen on an LS1 yet, to be honest. Looks the best too, if you ask me.

Check this first before you make a move;

the Blackwing lid (including hoses and fittings) is $300.00 from SLP.

Thanks for all of the input! Just what I was looking for. I know my stock lid has the baffles, what is the Blackwing lid and what does it look like? Thanks again.

Looks like your stock lid but without the resonator/baffle box,
and it has an oval-to-round rubber neck where it connects to the MAF sensor.

I think some SS's and all Firehawk's come with it.

Re-read I was implying that if he had a blackwing, he could probably just go ahead and hold on to that one If it was the regular baffled POS that came on my SS, replace that junk!

Go with the cheapest aftermarket (preferably used) used piece, make sure there are no cracks and it seals correctly. Got Whisper for $50 with a dirty K&N.

Yes, if he has a Blackwing lid, he should keep it, it's valuable.

If his SS is a 2000, and it's the stock lid, then it's not a Blackwing. They weren't available in 2000. I think the only year that SLP offered them as an option was 2002.

My SLP lid rubs on the hood and does not fit very tight, like the stocker lid.

What baffles are you talking about? My 02 SS cme with a lid that has a raised imprint that says blackwing, does it have these baffles that you are refering to?
