Default Camaro with no badges - is it a V8 or a V6?

I just called a local dealership about a car they had in the paper and i talked to one of the guys but i forgot to ask a question. It shows the picture and all but its a burgandy color (which is hot!) and says 02 Camaro T-top, ladadada, then 6 speed. The picture isnt very close up to the car but i cant see a z28 badge on the side of the car. (again not close so it could be just my eyes) Im trying to figure out if the car is a z28 or just a v6? But im looking for clues that would make it a z before i run out there to see it. I called the dealer back but he is gone and he's the only one that handles the used cars (or atleast the newer ones) I know it says 6 speed and i think the v6's dont have 6 speeds, i thought that is only for the v8 cars. Also im not sure if a v6 has a t-top? Any help would be great because its a beautiful car and i want to go look at it sometime in the next couple days.

Also is there any way a dealer would order a SS hood (even if i pay them something) for the car in that color or am i just better finding one in good condition and having it painted? Thanks

Only V8's have 6 speed. V6's are 5 speed. The car could have been repainted and the emblems were left off. The only real way to tell is to go have a look.

the dealer is either just a dush-bag and said six speed to make it sound better and didint look for himself and its really a five and its a v6 or its a z28 six-speed. well t-tops came on every model, its almost standard for it to have t-tops. well other than a badge or a shot of the rear to see the exhaust its nearly impossible to tell the difference, unless u can read the tire size(z28=245 v6=235) u just need to go check it out for yourself bro!!!!

If it's any help when I was searching for mine I found that AutoTrader, AutoByTel, Cable Cars, those free car ad magazines at the grocery store, and the dealer's websites routinely all advertised much of the same inventory. In other words, just because you saw it in the paper I'd imagine if you went to their website or searched the zip code where it is on one of the major Internet car sites, my bet would be that you'd come up with some better pictures from different angles.

well, could be that the emblems were taken off, some people want to have sleepers... dumb idea, but yeah if its a six speed, then it has to be a V8. Might be a typo: six speed instead of six cylinder... Hopefully not...

Didn't the V6s have a body colored top (sail panel if I'm not mistaken), while the V8s except for some program cars all had black tops?

That largely depends on year and how it was ordered

Probably. I'm talking about the panel that seperates the T-Tops and the rear window. I was thinking it was the sail panel because I saw the Service bulletin on them, and all the pictures were in the general areas of this panel.

all of the ls1 camaro v8 cars had black tops, EXCEPT the b4c cars, which had body color tops.

all b4cs had body color tops, no badges, and no t-tops.

which means if it has a body color top AND t-tops it is a v6 or a repainted v8 (non-b4c).

It is standard practice in the sleazebag world of used car sales to advertise a
v6 camaro as a 6 speed while leaving out Z28 and not mentioning which engine the car has. The truth is that the 6 cylinder cars don't resale very well at all and everyone with half a brain wants an LS1 so dirtball salesmen and sales managers intentionally run the misprint of "6 speed". It leaves them an out when you realize you drove an hour to look at a car you wouldn't normally consider buying. They only continue to do it because they have a better chance of selling a base camaro or firebird to someone who is frustrated, was prepared to spend more money on the LS1, and is dumb enough to buy the line "This V6 has way more power than you'll ever need". In the perfect world, after you ask the guy on the phone and he says he "thinks" it's the V8, you would drive to see the car and see it's a base model, and immediately break his nose right before kicking his sales manager in the *****. Seems like that might discourage any further bait and switches of that variety anyway. But then this aint a perfect world and you'd just be in jail instead of the ones who should be for their shady business practices.....them. Enough ranting for today. jer
