Question Auto or standard, I'll take both.

I'm looking at getting a '95 to '97 Z-28 or Trans Am and was wondering what everyones takes are on the auto or 6 speed. Don't worry, I can drive a standard, I just wanted to know what peoples opinions were on them. Gas mileage, drivability, that kind of thing. Thanks.

I am a 6speed lover and I believe the only reason to buy an auto is if your looking to get some really LOW ets.

i live 6.5 miles from HRP (i'm sure you know what that is) and i swapped mine from auto to 6 speed last summer. just preference. if i was bracket racing i might consider an auto, but i like the 6 speed so much more.

obviously it's just personal preference

auto = consistent, fun with a stall
manual = fun to drive, takes driver knowledge/experience at track. never as fast(shifts) or consistent as an auto.

I could go either way, it just so happens I was looking for a car that was black, and had leather and t-tops. I found the car and it was an auto.

I love driving a six speed, wouldn't consider a automatic at all, ever. I am not a big drag racer, but if I was, I would still go with a built manual tranny. I give MAD PROPS to the guys rowing their way into the 9's! I hope you get what you like... But a manual is what I like, and its what I have.

Oh yea, don't let anyone talk you INTO a tranny, get what YOU like. I drive DAILY in bumper to bumper traffic in my six speed and it doesn't bother me at all, but Im sure to some it may.

I've thought about doing that, how much would the swap cost me?

Not to criticize anyone, but shifting is my favorite part of a sports car.The 6 speed is a blast ,love playing with it.

got mine with a spec stage 3 clutch and it cost me around 2200-2300 to do everything... kinda expensive but it beat trying to sell a TA with a busted auto and buying a 6 speed that and i was already attached to mine i have grown to where i love the color of mine... to me it was completly worth it

Yeah, I came to the realization that it was pretty much a coin toss (at least for me). I'm not looking at something to take to the track (be it a drag, road course, or autocross style) a whole lot. Though, I do plan to venture to a track at some point. That aside, I'm looking for a good daily driver, so it really is going to depend on where I am living at the time of the purchase. I enjoy shifting through gears (to me that's actully driving, you become part of the car, in a way), but if I'm giong to be somewhere with lots of traffic, then maybe an auto. The big thing is I'm just going to have to drive both and see what I'm comfortable in. Thanks to everyone for their imput.

Happy Driving.
