Default why does noone beef up their 10 bolt?

Im thinking of upgrading my rearend next and was just wondering why noone tries to beef up their 10 bolt rather than dropping 2.5k on a 12 bolt or 9"

To sum it up putting money in a 10 bolt is equivalent to polishing a turd! In the end it's still gonna be a 7.5" ring gear that is too small to handle the power our cars can achieve.

Because it still can't take NEAR the power or a 12 bolt or 9"

I did. I put in motive 3.73's, a cover, and all new bearings. Also put in a Eaton HD posi. It worked spot on for me. then again, i am not stupid enough to launch on slicks with a M6 car. Once i went over the 400rwhp mark, i opted to go ahead and get a 9". My 10bolt was still going strong when i pulled it out. I almost felt bad pulling it out, after all the racing it put up with!

The constrants of the 7.5 ring gear design strength was not a concern. Lightwieght, cheap production was.

A lot of people on here do build em up. But they only seem to last behind automatics.

So true. If you'd spent any amount of time searching you'd find the same results...beefing up a 10 bolt is only a temporary solution at best. You can put all the money in the world into it and still be looking at an expensive tow bill home from the track...

The 10 bolt is not worth beefing up because it is still a 10 bolt (i.e. small and weak). With what you'd invest refurbishing a 10 bolt, you could put that towards a 12/9 inch and be more than halfway paid off...and well into the 9's-10's-11's etc without coming home on a flatbed every week.

I don't think it's really necessary to replace the 10 bolt asap, but when you start breaking stuff frequently you need to take into consideration the cost. My stock 10 bolt w/ 4.10s lasted me far longer than it should have, even on drag radials...but now it's time is up and a 12 bolt is on the way.

Well I look at it this way. You couldn't search for an hour (doesn't take that long but anyway) the first reply to your post was 3 hours after you made it anyway, so much for saving time. But you got your answer nonetheless.

I dont mean to be a dick but look at it this way, this web site has tons of information as well as real world experences, you wouldnt need to scroll down the page very far to find some information on what your looking for...This section is pretty damn frustrating to look at becuase you find the same 4 posts over and over again.I can honestly say that I can contribute information thats why I continue to read it.They put a rear end faq at the top of this page im pretty sure hardly anyone ready it..oh well..

To answer your question simply. It can't handle the power that are car put out..... Save your money and buy a 9", it sure beats putting a bandaid on your 10 bolt. And it costa less than fixing your 10 bolt bolt over and over again in the end. I know,I broke 5 10 bolts (to cheap to buy a 12 bolt) and 4 12 bolt r&p (to cheap to buy a 9"). Now I own a 9" after probably spending 7-8k on rears with fixing them when $2400 would have done it the first time.

ok, the ten bolt just does not have the material to support a high performance car. you cant put bigger than 28 spline axels in it, the center setion is a joke, the gears are thin as all hell. it was NEVER meant to go fast, its from a damn S10 and thts about it.
