Default Ticking noise and a slight miss..Any ideas?

I have a 98 camaro SS and I hear a ticking noise that is definatly not an injector and i have noticed that it has idled rougher in the last few weeks. I also have ruled out an exhaust leak (stock manifolds). Think it could be a rocker arm or a pushrod? BTW..its an A4 so no missed shifts..Where should I start?

Is the check engine light on? It might be a lifter. Just an idea.

I would strongly suspect a broken valve spring. Dpn't drive it any more and spend a couple of hours pulling the valve covers to check for a broken spring.

Check under hood at night engine idling & see if a spark plug wire is arcing out.

Thanks for all of the replies.. I'll check into it tomorrow. Also i have done the egr mod..could it be leaking and making that noise? Also the car has 63k miles on it with TR55's on one side (the easy side) and stockers on the pass side...Long story on why the pass side never got completed.

...busted push rod or valve spring is the likely problem...

I would say that it sounds very much like an ignition problem. You may very well have a broken plug or coil that isn't firing.

Can also be a simple exhaust leak or a loose spark plug or a plug with cracked ceramic. Check by running car in the dark and look for arcing wires.
