What highway mpg for A4 guys?
I just did a 165 mile day yesterday with my 96 SS. It was almost all highway with a small amount of 25-35 driving. I averaged 23 mpg but thought I would get closer to 25-27 with the longtube headers and dual 3" cat y-pipe. I have 315/35's on the rear and I ran into some rain for the last 40 miles so maybe that hurt like the slow speed areas. The car is an A4 with 3.23 gears and the 315 tires. I was surprised that the Sumitomo 315's gave me no problems at all in the rain. They never broke loose or hydroplaned at all. I used to get 24-28 mpg with my old supercharged 93 A4 3.23 car and that had stock manifolds so I was expecting better than 23 with the 96. The exhaust smelled rich to me when I pulled up to toll booths so I thought it might need some tuning for the exhaust modifications. The fuel trims were running 3-5 above baseline during most of the driving. It was a good trip until I hit the rain though.
