Default I'm getting a *thud* under acceleration...

Alright, here is the deal. Stock 2001 Z28. 44k miles.

Say you are going, brake to 5, 10, or 15 mph and then press on the gas, the car hesitates for a very brief second, makes a *thud* noise and then goes fine. Same happens if you go around a turn with zero pressure on the gas, once ther car straightens out, when you go to push on the gas it will make the *thud* noise. If you press on the gas very easy at first and then slowly press harder it won't make the *thud* noise.

I thought it was the tranny mount so I replaced that on Sunday. Had no effect on the *thud* noise. People are now telling me it would be the torque arm or the u-joint or even the motor mounts. How do I check to see if these need to be replaced? Anyone ever have a problem like this before?

The car runs fine and everything, the *thud* noise is more annoying that anything.

same way as you would check for a worn tranny mount. a BFP(big effin prybar). pry on the variou suspect mounts and look for more than normal travel. like if you pry on the motor mount and it move like 2 inchs instead of maybe just a half inch, something is wrong. for the u-joint, easiest way is to swap d-shafts with a friend. the definite/proper way is to disconnect it from the pinion gear, and articulate it through its entire range of motion. if it is bad, you will know right away. check both ujoints. i recommend that if one is bad, to just go ahead and replace both(if you have a 12 bolt and didn't get the 1350 joint, now is a good time for it). let us know what turns up.

I replaced my tranny mount last Sunday. Didn't help the noise at all.

It seems the *thud* is the tranny poping in and out of gear. Hmm.

How much is a new torque arm? How hard was it to install?

well, since you already bought the torque arm mount. while your done there installing it, check out your u-joints and your motor mounts. then of course if it still does that and it is your tranny..then go to several tranny shops and have them ride with you while you drive it so they can hear/feel what your describing and see what they say. like i said, go to several shops not just one.
