confused about carrier

Default confused about carrier

If I want to get a 3 ser carrier from a m6 do I have to get the whole rear(10 bolt) or just the carrier and the 3.42 gear or Im I just better of getting a thick gear for the 2 carrier

The carrier is part of the posi unit. I had a the richmond 3.73 thick gear for the 2 ser carrier and it worked fine for about 2 years the I blew out my rear. The thick gear will be the cheapest route for you.

I'd save your pennies and when the jar is full get a 12 bolt. Money better spent.

I am going to buy a non posi 3 carrier probably for $60.So do all I need is the gears?

I'd recommend going with a 3 series carrier rear end with gm 3.73 gears because from what I've been told....getting "thick" gears with your stock 2 series carrier usually leads to whining gears......
