It'd probably be cheaper in the long run to just sell yours and buy a hard top.

Its my understanding all the hard tops started out as T-tops, they simply covered over the "T" with the roof pannel.

That's what I'm trying to find out. I'd like to see if it can be changed over.

Couldn't you just leave the t-tops on, lock them and forget about them?

some people think it ruins the cars lines, changes weight, is unsafe compared to the 1/8 steel instead of a glass covering, secuirty problems....some people also just dont like the look of it...

I have had friends which had their car vandalized. In this case the roof was all bent up and was replaced.

You may be able to do this...

However you are still going to need new weatherstrips and headliner.

I swear someone told me that both cars have the T bar and the difference between them is some have the t top part cut out.

In that case most of the support would come from the t top bar under the hardtop roof, right?

Yep, this is absolutely true! I have a friend with a 98 Z28 and his was a hardtop and he simply cut out the roof and the inner stuff was ready for the t-roofs. All he needed was some trim pieces and the panels and he was good to go.

it'll be a bit of work, for the most part hard tops are just covered up t-tops. well kinda. here's a few links i dug up of people going from hard top to t-top. opposite of what you want to do, but this will give you an idea of whats different.

"Took this pic while thinking how much a bodyshop would charge me to fix my car after they stopped laughing."

LOL

Well, when I read through the writeups it looks like you remove a lot of material in the t top conversion. So, you are going to have to find a donor car. It is going to take a lot of intimate cutting and welding to go the other way!

I was on a aftermarket website a month or so ago and it was mainly exterior parts hoods, bodykits, spoilers ect.. I wish i book marked it because the company made solid fiberglass T-top panels for F-bodys , And all they did was use the existing factory t-top hardware to lock into place except it was paintable fiberglass panels instead of glass and they also had a carbon fiber version, But i can't find the website again.
Which got me thinking since i work in the marine industry and have tons of fiberglass materials available what if you just got a set of used t-tops removed the glass and use 1/8 - 1/4 fiber glass sheets in place of the glass and had it painted to either match the body color or top for the specific year car???
Ever since i saw them on a site i have been wanting to try it for some reason
