who has a lift? chime in Who here has a lift at home or at work? I'm thinking of getting one if I can purchase this home that has workshop in the back of it (Looks to be a 30x30 shop) Anyways I'm day dreaming (or night dreaming cuz its 1:45am)
What kinda of lift do you have?
how much weight does it hold?
if its a 4 post do you have the jacks to still jack it up?
2 post lifts are they pretty stable? (Worried because not sure the type of concrete and/or thickness)
Anyways lemme know

I went on google awhile back and looked up "2 post lift". there sure are a lot of lifts. if i remember correctly, the requirement was 4" think concrete and you could get a 9000 lbs. lift for around 2K. there were some more espensive one though. the manufacurer's specifications and requirements were usually on the web pages as well.

You also got to watch where their made.You can get offshore junk just like floor jacks or engine hoists.If I remember correctly,there was a well known company that was selling offshore lifts and advertising as made in u.s.a...I think they were filing for bankruncty and had taken a bunch of money from customers and didn't fill the orders....

My only complaint is that my 'normal' garage door prevents the car going to full height because the rail is in the way. A buddy is trying to convince me to spend $700 to get a roll up door, but I'm not quite ready to do that yet (is the extra foot worth it?
). My roof is 12', so a normal lift wouldn't fit (because inside, the roof is less than 12 feet up, and most full height lifts are 144" or so tall).
We bought this house because of the shop.
Based on average dollar per square foot of the house vs. other houses on the street, we paid about $2 more per square foot on the house... which means I picked up a $20k shop for $5k (mine's insulated, 6" slab, 80A 220V service, with a 20x30 shed overhang attached to the side.

Mohawk A7 I've got a Mohawk A7. American made. I picked it up used from the local Mohawk distributor who was deinstalling it from a Saab dealership. Check the lift manufacters site for floor spec. I have 8" of 4000PSI concrete on that side of the garage. It's also 220v.
Picks my C5 up like there is nothing on the lift. No problems with the lift at all. The only issue you might have is ceiling height.

I've got a bendpak 2 post assymetrical at home. It's 11ft 5in to fit under my 11ft 6in ceiling.
I had the garage door track and opener raised up to the ceiling so I could lift it high enough to stand under with the door open. (but it does still go a bit higher with the door closed.

I bought a used champion 2 post asymetrical 9000lb. It wasn't shiny and new but only cost me 1300 installed and has worked flawlessly for the last 3 years. Best money I've ever spent on tools.

I have a two post 7000Lb and it has picked up all I worked on. Always just start to lift the car then get on the floor and verify that you are on four safe spots to lift. then lift the car a foot off the ground then shake the car to see if it is stable. if you do this, it will give you a good chance of being safe.

At my high school, we have the second best shop in Tennessee. It cost about 500,000 and we have 4 lifts and a alignment machine. We are also trying to get a dyno machine so we become a certified shop. I think its called NASF certification or something like that.

2 post lifts are very stable when used correctly. I pick up everything from 1 ton crew cabs (with empty beds of course) to honda insights with my rotary lift at work. 4 post drive ons are great for everything my 2 post won't lift (1 ton trucks with 2000lbs worth of tools in it), but they suck for suspension and steering work.

I had plans for a lift and went to measure today.
My garage is drywalled so my ceiling is about 9'5", short of the 10' I need to put in the one I was looking at.
I've thought of just cutting 2 holes in the ceiling since there is an attic above the garage.
I really want to get a lift, I'm tired of plywood roulette to get a jack under the C5.
Anyone know of one that will fit?
