Default Am I burning oil?

Ok this has happened the last few oil changes, I'll get a low oil light as it's getting time to change my oil and I'll check it and probably around a quart and half low at least. I'm leaking any oil, well it's not dripping anyway, just standing oil.

So what are some things I could check to figure out what's going on? Anyone else get similar problems??

It's a 2000 Firehawk, I'm running Mobil 1 10-30.

Yeah, you are probably just burning oil like the rest of us through the PCV. Take a look around the External Engine board. There are lots of posts regarding what to do with the stock PCV system as it sucks lots of oil into the intake.

Cool thanks MTN_Z, I'll check it out.

Yeah but I change my oil every 3 months and it's this low.

I burn about a quart and a half every 3000 miles..around 60K miles is when she started burning..never burned a drop before that. The Firehawk still doesn't burn any...

Some burn it..some don't...more of them do burn it then don't.

If I drive it harder then normal beating (lots of time spent in upper range of RPMs). It runs low on oil before the next change. Otherwise there is little oil lost on mine (1/2 to 1 quart in 3K).

Higher vacuums and pressures, oil disapears!

I don't like the word burning oil. Too negeative.

yup...the amount you're burning is very common for the LS1 engine. It's thanks to the design of the PCV system.

Some burn 1 quart every 3K miles from the showroom floor, some don't start until later..some never start. Some will burn slightly more, some will burn less. I hear about more of them burning it than don't.

You might want to look into installing a catch can. You'll still be burning oil, but you won't get it getting into your intake where it shouldn't be.
