Default AAHh Cross roads (v6 or V8)

I plan to get my 4th gen around the summer time, but with these freakin gas prices a 3.8 liter sounds pretty good to me, those are like 190hp stock ( right?) I could throw on a turbo and try to aim for 300hp+, but that wont be for some time. Then with the old good LS1 I can always have the power on hand, but 5.7 sucks alot of gas. I had a 4.5 liter caddy eldarado and hated it cause it drank so much gas. Did you guys ever had this lil dilema when you decided to get ur ride?

It gets pretty good gas milage for a 350 V8. Its rated at 18 mpg city. I usually get 220 to a tank. The tank is 15.5 gallons for my 98 Formula. It takes premium but if youre gonna get an f bod the only one to get is the V8. When you get it you wont regret it. I promise. The SUV's get worse gas milage than the LS1.

How much did it cost you to transplant the ls1, with everything included?

im not really seeing how you got that figure. For a normal v6 you probably payed 8k-ish. Then Ls1 plus transporting parts 3-4k. so your at 11-12. And you can get a great conditioned TA for 17. im not a math wizard but 17-12 doesnt equal 10?

I'd go for the ls1, they do get pretty good gas mileage for a v8

There are no crossroads, just one straight, obvious path. I'm looking forward to getting a LS1 over my Jeep even having to pay for premium. It's like a whopping 3 or 4 bucks more than paying for regular. Don't bother to buy a v6 and then ls1 transplant, might as well do it 'right' from the beginning. Get a m6 and you'll see near 30mpg highway. I'd say thats pretty darn good for a 346 v8.

if you dont keep the pedal on the floor, you can get almost as good of gas mileage with the LS1 as the 3.8 especially if you have the 6spd. But that is if you leave it close to stock, you start slapping a cam in there and sh*t and your mileage will suffer some.

I can get 21mpg if I am nicer to her, I have yet to make it through a whole tank without opening her up a little So I vote for the V8 you will thank your self as soon as you mash that pedal!

my cuz is getting the same mileage with his GT (Dare i say mustang) as i am getting with my v-6 mustang. And given that the ls1 is way better with mpg than the GT, im willing to bet that the ls1 gets the same if not better gas than my car! Which is why im switching to a camaro

I used to own a 01 V6. I traded it in for the LS1. I dont ever regret it. The only thing I regret was buying the v6. The v6 I got 17 mpg and that wasnt being as hard on it as my LS1 and it gets around 19 mpg. I dont really do much highway driving either. My vote would be for the LS1 by far. Take both cars for a test drive and see what you like would be probaley the best way to go though. I think after you do you will have your mind made up in no time.

Regarding gas. Premium is like 2.80. Regular is like 2.60. So lets say there is .20 per gallon differabce. @ 15 gallon to a tank =.20 (diff) x 15 (gall) = 3 bucks... If you cant handle dropping an additional 3 bucks a week for premium over reg. then i dont think your financially ready to purchase a car. So if gas price is a concern, i say dont get a f-body, buy a civic. lmao

regarding the V6 vs V8. Dood, do yourself a favor and just get the LS1. unless your good with cars and can drop the LS1 in a V6 without relying on someone to do it for you (labor costs are a bitch) then i would stay away from the LS1 swap... but iunno

I'm sure your gears arent helping you out too much. Do you get 14MPG average, or just city?
