Generation III External Engine - NGK TR5 Question

I just picked up some tr5's from Ramchargers. I told the service guy that i wanted tr55's. He gave me the tr5's instead. I didn't notice until I got home (15 miles one way). I know that they are a "hotter" plug, but can I use them anyway? Also, what gap? 0.050?

They are not a hotter plug actually, they are the same heat range as stock and TR55s. The only difference between a TR5 and a TR55 is that the TR55s come with a preset gap of .055 to .059 while the TR5s come in closer to .039. They do this because you should only change the preset gap of a plug by plus or minus ten thousandths. So if you wanted to run a .035 gap you wouldn't really want to use the TR55. And on the flipside if you wanted a .060 gap you'd be best running the TR55s.
Since most LS1s tend to like .050, you could run either plug and it wouldn't cause a problem. I say go with those TR5s and run anywhere from a .045 to .050 gap. I ran TR6s at .044 when I ran my 12.68 time and my car seemed to like it.

Thanks Patman. I appreciate that. I've never changed my plugs (or any for that matter) before.
Hopefully all goes well. From what I hear, the #8 is a bitch!

On your '00 #8 will be easiest from underneath.
