Default Considering buying a modded Camaro...

Well I have been looking and looking for an F-Body with under 40k miles (preferrably 2001+) for a good price and have been relatively unsucessful. The ones I did find were priced at way more than I would like to pay for that paticular vehicle...

One that I did find that I had my eye one was a pretty good deal, except I am afraid that it is modded. Now my car-buying knoweledge and experience tells me not to buy a modded car. But it seems like it is a really good deal and an F-Body with low miles that for a good price doesn't come my way all the time...

What do you guys think about this one? Worth considering?

I would try to talk the down a few thousand. Find out what they mean by slp intake system( lid, intake mainifold, ect..) The car isn't that modded. Also find out what the paint looks like under the bra, I've seen cars that have had the paint rubbed off from the bra.

I was worried about the bra as well... I mean if I was going to take pictures of a car for autotrader I would want it to look as sexy as possible... I think the bra makes the car look unappealing which is why I am worried they have it on there to cover something up...

I am assuming it is just a lid and possibly a filter/bellows... Also, maybe you could help me with this, what is with those exhaust tips? Is that some weird option or did the guy add that aftermarket? It says it has Corsa exhaust and I have never seen a Corsa catback with those tips... Another thing I am potentially worried about is the fact that it comes with one of those handheld programmers. I am afraid that the guy might have possibly used it to clear a trouble code and is hiding something...

Maybe I am just being paranoid...

The discription of the car says borla exhaust. The hand held programer should have a return to stock option so you could always set it back and adjust your self.

I'd never buy a car with a bra on it. Almost always it's there to cover up damage, and if it's not it will be a different color paint due to fading. BTW musta been a 7' giant driving it unless they just moved the seat back for some reason.

Yeah it never came stock on any year car. Only the CME style on our car came stock (as an optional exhaust) on the late model year 2001 and 2002 SS cars.

That is a possibility. We kept our CME tips with our Magnaflow...

IMO it looks like your typical lid/catback/programmer/rims car, nothing too huge as far as mods (you could get a lid and catback on an SS, straight from the dealer, if you got the SLP options), and the dealer can flash the PCM back to stock if you want (AFAIK most handhelds can't permanently delete codes)
The big thing is the bra, it's likely damaged the paint, either by rubbing trapped debris, or keeping moisture trapped under it, if you go look at it remove the bra, and inspect the paint carefully
So if you decide to go look you want the PCM back to stock, and to carefully inspect the paint under the bra, you may be able to negotiate a paint job (at least the front if it's damaged)
Give it a look it might be the one you're looking for (assuming it's fairly close)

The car is within a couple hours of here so it is no big deal... I gave the guy an offer of $16000 and I imagine we end up settling around $18000 when all is said and done (assuming there is nothing wrong with the car).

And I guess it isn't the mods that turn me off about it (I actually kinda like the idea that some of the basic stuff is already there) it's the fact that it's BEEN modded. A person that modifies their car is more likely to beat on it than a person who knows nothing about their car and just drives it nicely...

That may be true, but people who mod their cars also tend to be more conerned with performance, including regular maintenance than someone who just treats it as an appliance. Once you've driven the car or paid a hundred bucks to have a dealer look it over you'll fell fine about buying or not buying it.

far to much money, isnt really modded to be worried about but 19800 is about 4-6k to much for an 02 z28. z28's sell for a lot less than say a ws6 or an SS. This is 2006 with 07's not that far off

FWIW, I bought an 02, fully optioned + extras SS with 8500 miles for a few hundred less than that. Talk that down if you want it.
