Help me decide on a rear for my car
Just sold a built 8.8 that I had. My car is gonna make around 1000rwhp. Its gonna more of a street touring style car, not a drag car. But I would like to run it here and there with no worries. I'm thinkin either a 9" or a Dana 60. The car is gonna have air ride on it, so i need to keep a lowered profile. Any suggestions??

My car is already setup pretty much the way you want yours to be, HP level, touring-style but still want to hit the strip whenever I want, and I chose a Strange S60... I didn't like the dropped pinion on the 9" and all the other 'issues' the 9" has in our cars...
The S60 is a complete drop-in, with every option you can think of (outside of gears numerically lower than 3.54s)...
Scott, why would you still push the 9"??? (I mean if it is a profitability thing for you on the business side, please just come out and say that... I just can't stand it when vendors push this or that based on what THEY will make, not on what is best for the customer... Not saying that is what you are doing, but I just don't see the reasoning behind the suggestion...)
I mean in the 9" arena you still have a problem finding a posi that will survive with 1000hp feeding it, so the posi issue isn't a deciding factor... The power loss because of a lowered pinion is an issue against the 9", so are all the housing issues in regards to specific torque arm issues, relocation bracket issues, etc... I mean the 9" WILL cost more at those HP levels... Not to mention it is a Ford product being put into a GM car (which is something some of us just flat out would rather not do)...
The S60, in comparison, is a complete bolt-in, has 35-spline axles standard, has every option you may want on a f-body, uses completely stock layout/bracketry so relocation brackets are not an issue... Plus it is by far cheaper than a comparable 9"... And of course the custom driveshaft shouldn't be an issue becasue at 1000hp you would want to upgrade that anyways, so buying one for a 9" or a S60 is a moot point...
Again, I just don't get the rational behind pushing a 9"...
