so you took off the exhaust from the cat or from the rear section.... havent really noticed i difference in mine when i use my cut out but it is possible because the exhaust is not coolin thru the whole tube rather than just being dumped. He you removed from the rear section that hissing could be due to all the pressure that is being generating from the heat off the exhaust. Only input i have but hopefully it will give you an answer. If when installed normally it cools fine than u got no problems....

The hissing when you take off the gas cap is just the vapor pressure being released from the tank. Both of the lt1 cars I've had have always done that.

So are you running open headers now? With the catback off, what, if any, exhaust system do you have now? Where are the exits? Are you dumping a lot of hot exhaust under the car where it normally wouldn't be?

Like above. 210 is not that hot for a stock LT1 They run hot compared to alot of other engines at idle for long periods. It must be that reverse cooling. As for the gas cap, it is the vapors. Read the cap it specifically says remove slowly etc....

A lot of it can depend on the outside temperature too. If you are in yankee country then chances are it will not hiss bc the outside temperature is hot not enough to heat the fuel up to cause a vaporization issue. If you are in the south then it is common. Especially on a 110 degree day.
