CDC and FDA officials are warning the more than 30 million Americans who wear contact lenses of a fungal infection that could lead to permanent vision loss.
So far more than 100 cases of fusarium keratitis have been reported in soft contact lens users. A majority of the patients who reported this infection had been using Bausch and Lomb's Renu moisture loc contact lens solution.

Experts, like Dr. Bennie Jeng with the Cleveland Clinic, say while there is an increase in cases now, it is still a relatively rare condition.
"In general contact lens related infections of the cornea being fungal related are actually very rare," Jeng says. "So the concern with this quote on quote outbreak is there's a lot people cropping up with this infection that usually doesn't show up on the radar that much."
If you are experiencing any unusual symptoms, you should contact your doctor immediately.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Bausch & Lomb has stopped shipping its ReNu brand contact lens solution after a number of people using the product reported getting a serious eye infection, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Monday.
The FDA said that 109 cases of the rare but serious infection that may cause loss of vision had been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 17 U.S. states. But the agency said during a conference call that it was not aware of a link between the infection and specific products.
Bausch & Lomb's stock was halted in afterhours trading on Monday after falling more than 9 percent to $52.12 on Inet electronic brokerage after the news. The stock had closed at $57.44 on the New York Stock Exchange.
The FDA said it had completed cases on 30 reports. Of those, 28 people wore soft contact lenses and 26 of them reported using Bausch & Lomb's ReNu brand in the month before the infection.
Five patients reported using other solutions in addition to ReNu.
The infection, caused by the Fusarium fungus, may lead to vision loss requiring corneal transplants, the FDA said.
The FDA and CDC are investigating the reported cases.
