Default quick question on PC pad

I just came home with a new porter cable 7336 polisher and had a quick question. It came with a 6" rubber pad for adhesive discs on it, so instead of buying the velcro backing pad online....could I save myself $15 (shutup, I'm cheap) and just cover the adhesive backing plate w/some super sticky velcro that I've got laying around?? Anybody see a problem doing this?

the problem with that is, the backing plate there is hard and the backing plate you would buy is flexible. With the flexible pad, you would have more room for error if you werent keeping the machine perfectly flat. With the hard plate, you run the risk of going off axis and digging into your paint and ruining it. Buy the flex plate, just my 2 cents.

Actually the pad that came with the PC is made of a soft rubber and is about an inch thick. Soft enough that I can squish it easily with my fingers. To me, it looks just like the backing pad everyone buys on here, minus the velcro. Since the pad is soft, I guess there's no problem sticking some velcro to it? Any other thoughts?

Actually, that white pad IS a pad, and it likely too soft to make a good backing plate. The backing plate is rubber, not foam.

Dude, just do it the right way..

just think how much it will cost if you mess up your paintjob cause you were too cheap to buy a 15 dollar piece

Ok guys, I'm not talking about the white pad that came with it. Here's a couple pics of the rubber backing plate that came with the pc I bought.....

I'm not really trying to be a cheap *** here, but I think it's fukin stupid for me to order this backing plate online, regardless of what it costs, and have to wait another week to detail my car when I've already got something that should work just fine. Does this not look like something that would work if it had velcro?

that look like about the same thing you buy just that the one you buy is yellow and comes with velcro. What the hell, give it a shot. Mine didnt come with one of those.
