Default CA smog w/ headers

Has anyone taken their CA LS1 to get smoged w/ longtubes/cats? If so...any luck? If I get a set I dont want to have to pull the bastards every two years. I know the sniffer will pass no prob, but I am worried about inspection and do these smog guys really know what they are looking at?

Yes they do. If they notice that the cats were moved they will fail you. Its best to work out a plan before hand with the smog guys or just swap it for the stock stuff like I did...it was not that bad at all.

Thats what I figured...I was just hoping for the best. How difficult is the instalation? Never done headers before on an LS1...did my truck...that was pretty easy w/ alot of space.

Yeah its needs to be jacked up pretty high in under to slip the headers in. It took me a long *** time by myself the first time, but it went a lot faster the second time around for me. I say 4 to 5 hours should be enough time for the swap.

I say first just shop around, go to several smog shops and say I have cats and headers that will pass the sniffer no porblem...would you be willing to overlook the visual part of the inspection of the cats? then just go from there. I am sure one will yes - I hope atleast.

Do you really just walk up and say "would you be willing to overlook the visual part of the inspection of the cats?"

??

with maybe a couple hundred bucks in hand. I would not do it like the day you need to get tested...like a month before hand I guess?

Didn't have it done , but just asked the dude and told him I was slightly modified. He just said no problem. I'll slip him a thank u on the side for appreciation. We spend umptine fuggin $'s for our cars and I'm not gonna let someone tell me I can't play and spend money my bytch !!!!

Why, because she never complains. I didn't spend 20 years in the world's baddest yacht club just so some fat-azz-gubment-chair plant can say " uuuuu can't do that."

Oh shyt!! Musta' had a flashback or something last nite. Really though...It doesn't make any since when a lot of the aftermarket stuff with a good tune actually runs cleaner and better than the factory OEM parts.

I'm sure this question will come around again. Folks just shop around. There are a lot of kool people out there that will work with us, ya just got to go out and find them.

Best bet like people have already mentioned.. go to a smog shop and be upfront with them and go from there. These guys know what to look for, their place of business depends on it.
