Racer's Lounge - So I got to drive a Sky finally...

Finally got to drive a Sky. It's our VP's. We've had 5 in prior, but they were sold, so no joy rides. Anyway, my impression was it's pretty boring. Too cramped inside, dash and door panels look cheap, and the power is very uninspiring. I can't believe people feel these sort of cars are quick. I didn't pound it or abuse it (well, not in MY sense of abuse ;) ), but grabbing 2nd produces a little spin. Grabbing 3rd produces a very weird squeeking/rubbing sound - sorta like the tranny is saying "hey asshole, don't do that to me again". :thumbsdow

The good things are that it rides GREAT! It's not stiff, but it's very confident without any roll. Power delivery is smooth - even though it's weak.

This is definitly a girls car. You probably won't ever catch me in another one ever again (at least until we get a Redline in  ). Dorks, people with no sense of speed, and homo-ish men will find this car to be an excellent fit though :jest: It's funny how most everyone here (edit - here= Saturn/my work) thinks they are so great. They have no clue :)

Kinda like seeing 2 grown men in a Miata. Makes ya wonder.

I'm kinda suprised. I figured that it would be a good cornering car. Usually those little cars are.

In HotRod they were saying that Pontiac is releasing a race Solstice to compete in SSB with the Miata. That could be fun, but driving one of those around....in public? Uh, no.

Done lie. You'd rock that thing to a Cowboys game with a giant star on the back :jest:

The review's what I expected from someone used to driving RWD V8s :D

Im sure no one was really expecting this thing to run like a Vette straight from Saturn...but at least it offers some good looks and decent handling to compete with the Miata.

Other than the fact that it's crazy cramped inside. It's a horrible feeling witht the top up.

It felt like a little go kart. I didn't get to push it, but it felt really planted. It's probably really great with the upgraded suspension package - and the redline will be even better.

In all honesty, the car does what it was made to do. It's Saturn's halo vehicle, and it's sure brought a lot of people onto our lot that would never ever have stopped by before. There is a lot of buzz, and the people who have purchased them love them. Just not my thing. Even with the Mallet LS2, I doubt I'd enjoy it much. It's just really too small (I'm 6' - maybe someone around 5'8" would appreciate it more) and I got no sense of speed from it. It does have a nice exhaust note for a 4 cylinder - but it's no Corvette in any way whatesoever (which it's not supposed to be).

Like I had mentioned, the interior panels are super cheapo. Even though I've been sat in these and checked them out already, you really dont notice it until you ride in one.

Let me say this - It honestly feels like a fwd 3.5 Vue would pull this thing - and I have more fun driving the Vue too. The Vue has the Honda 3.5 though (255hp/242tq), but also weighs about 3500lbs.

At the end of the day, if you want a REAL 2 seater roadster, but a Vette.

I'm glad i'm not the only one that noticed it. I posted the same thing on another forum and they all blew up on me. The car has a lot going for it but the interior is just poor.. they really cut corners on the materials... They'll still sell tons of them though..

I really don't care if people think it's a chick car. I own two V8's that say "real man" all over them. I think the sky is an aswesome looking car. You don't buy one of those cars for the horsepower. You buy one in order to enjoy the weather, save gas, and still drive a sporty looking car. I'm fit up of paying too much for gas. When I drive the TA, I fill up every 2 days and when I drive my mustang, I fill up every 4 days. I wanna be able to fill up my tank and have that sucker last me over a week.

But this car is absolutely useless. It has no utility or practicality whatsoever. I could think of many better choices for a cheap dd that's good on gas.

I remember first seeing the commercial for the Sky(not knowing what it was or who made it at the time) and i thought it was some exotic. I really really liked the look of the car. Plus its based on the same platform as the coolest looking(well one of atleast) cars ever- the Opel Speedster. I hope the Red Line version has atleast 250hp or so.

I'm not trying to trash on our cars, but the practicality of our cars are no different then the sky. I can't go off roading in my TA, or go fishing at my regular spot, can't fit hardly anything in the car when I buy something of large size.

Our cars just look awesome and are fast That's all it is :judge: Someone stated that the interior of the sky is boring...hey our cars got some pretty bad reviews about the interior when they first came out. Most of use have that famous crack on the top of the door panel.

Point is that buying a sky serves just about the same purpose of us owning LS1's...minus the horsepower.

I never found that a fbody wasn't practical. The only thing you can't do is take it offroad. It has room for 4, enough room to pack stuff in, and it's comfortable to drive everyday. I had no problem driving all of mine everyday. I guess it depends what each of us personally feel is useful. I found my Camaros to be rather practical though. I'm in my early 20's though ;)

Sure, reviews said our interiors were cheap, but personally, I like the interiors of our cars better (especially the T/A). They have a lot more funtionality than the Sky interior - besides, the Sky is BRAND new. The Camaro/Firebird interiors were a product coming from the 80's. If you think in that sense, they were light years ahead of the Sky in design.

This is just my opinion obviously, and no one needs to agree. ;)

I love driving my TA everyday. I even went on 8 hour road trips with it. Held mine and my girlfriends luggage, had a great time.
