Question Exhaust upgrades

I'm looking for some exhaust upgrades. I was thinking about putting in a X or Y pipe and cutting out both cats. Good idea or no? Would an X or Y be better?

Really depends on what type (if any) of emissions testing you have to do, if none, then the x pipe and tru duals will probably give you the most hp, but will be loud as hell, a Y pipe and a catback, can be quiet or loud, depending on what catback you pick.

For the budget headers, pacesetters are one of the more popular brands, edelbrocks are also getting some favorable reviews
If you have the $$ get some stainless steel, Kooks or QTP are the ones most frequently mentioned

I'm looking at this setup here...

Do cats help with gas mileage or just emissions? No cats would make the exhuast much louder right?

yeah no cats would be louder and would probably help with your gas milage a little bit b/c the exhaust would flow easier, making the engine more efficient.

You'll get louder, and likely have some rasp in your exhaust sound, you'll probably lose a couple of mpg for a while, until you get used to the sound and can keep your foot out of it.
Macs are a pretty good header, but if you're planning on more serious mods, you should really go for the long tubes (if you aren't macs will do fine (not alot of difference between them and LTs)
