Racer's Lounge - Where do you park your car?

When you go out, are you one of those kinds of drivers who parks just anywhere, or do you like to park far away from other drivers? I hate going to shopping malls with my car on busy days, b/c I prefer to park farthest away to avoid idiots parking beside me and causing door dings. Maybe it's just me, but I have the WORST luck. Whenever I just indulge myself for even a few days of "not worrying about where to park" I always find a new door ding or scratch.
I really hate those other drivers who open their doors wrecklessly or aggressively and hit other cars. There seems to be alot of those kinds of jerks (men and women) out there. This is one of the stresses of driving a nice car. But then a couple weeks ago I am at the local grocery store and this guy parks his almost new looking red Ferrarri in a spot close to the entrance, just tightly between 2 cars. Like he didn't give a crap. Then I shook my head thinking about how I worry for this shit, and this guy parks a car worth over $250k as if it was not a big deal.

In my Z28 I always parked in the back. I do a lot now in my WRX too. I don't mind walking, unless it's raining and I'm going to an interview or a dinner or something.

I always park at the end, under a light if it's night time.
about 2 years ago, I parked at the mall towards the back....with the nearest car about 4 spaces away, I come out and there is this piece of shit aqua blue mid 90's cavalier parked right next to me for whatever reason...I look down at my right 1/4 (the only fricken Metal on the damn car!!!!) and there was a noticable ding AND a paint chip UNDER the blue paint this asshat left on my car.....sooooooooo I just happened to have a 1 1/8 wrench in my hand that I bought at sears a few minutes ago and proceeded to bust out the drivers window, broke the side mirror off, and left a nice 2 foot scratch in the paint!
seems a little over board? don't care! if the asshole would of been more careful, or hell even left a note or something...it wouldn't of happened! I don't feel bad at all! I have worked my ass of for this car, I keep it spotless since I bought it brand new, I take extra precautions to avoid shit like this......so yea I got a little pissed! :D

You know, I don't normally agree with violence or breaking the law, but I am glad you did that actually. I can totally understand the anger you had when you saw that. Not saying that we should always resort to getting out wrenches or bats and causing damage, but as Rambo once said "they drew first blood" (LOL). I have been in situations like that where I find a ding or scratch and I know it was done by the car parked next to me, but I have always been too chicken shit to actually do something thinking someone is going to see me and report me.
Many times, when someone dingd your door it's not worth the effort or hassles to go to a body shop to repair it. Discretely kicking the offenders door in or scratching their paint is actually the only effective remuneration in those cases when the other driver is nowhere to be seen, hasn't left a note, doesn't give a shit, etc.

I'm not super picky about it. It is just a camaro and a daily driver at that. It's already got 4-5 dings and a lot of scratches on the doors/quarter panels.
I usually park where it's not crowded though, just because this car is kind of long and the turning radius isn't so swell. Not to mention where I live the people are idiots and will back right into you and not even turn around.

I parallel park my car in the same spot everyday I'm at school. I have to walk about a quarter of a mile farther, but I don't mind. Peace of mind is well worth getting there 10 minutes earlier.
At the apartment I always parallel park the car too. Luckily that spot is right next to the front door to the stairs.
At work our garage is so tight you cannot park two large SUVs next to eachother without dinging the other person's doors off.(You have to fold both mirrors in and leave about 4" of clearence from the pole and other car to get 2 big Suburbans next to eachother). I just park in two spots.
At the store I park way in the back and walk. It drives me nuts when I'm with friends and they circle the parking lot looking for a close spot. If you had parked in the back, we'd already be at the door instead of looking for a spot.

Finding the most expensive car might not always be good... those people can be pricks and just swing their doors open because in 2 years they'll have a new one.
As for smashing shit... good job :)
At sixflags I parked at an end spot parrallel to the little road. There was a little corner marked off(about half of a real space) so people won't hit your car on the road. Some asshole bitch parked so close to me it was amazing in that little marked off corner. I keyed the shit out of it and my girlfriend wanted to do it too. Well I said no and as soon as we got in the car the other person got in their car. They didn't say anything or even look at me but I'm pretty sure they saw us. Oh well..

i park in between two spots, right on the line that seperates the two spots and gives me about a 3 or 4 foot clearance for any asshole who parks next to me, but one day i was in my car waiting for my friend and damn guy pulls in right next to me real close and sure enough bumps my door with his door, comes over and says im so sorry and i went and looked and no scratch or ding in the door. he was lucky i would have killed him or made his ass pay to repaint the whole door, fuckin retards just dont pay attention when opening doors and they dont care since there car is a piece of shit.

i would of done the same...and then waited for the pos to come out...
No doubt. I probably woulda waited for the asshat to come back, ask him what his purpose of parking next to someone when it's obvious they didn't want to be parked next too. I woulda written down his liscencse plate and VIN so I could file a claim against him if it was that bad, and if he didn't appologise and agree to fix it...I'd have gone ape shit with the wrench.
I always park as far away as possible (or is reasonable). At work there is definately an unwritten code of "don't park next to me" in the back portion of the lot. If I have to park next to someone, I do it driver's door to driver's door, at the end of the row, as far in the "box" away from the other car as possible and NEVER next to an SUV or minivan. Definately try to find a clean car that's "respectible" in appearance and original pricing. I parallel park as much as possible too. I get POed if someone does park next to me when I'm lightyears away from the next nearest car...and you're damn right I'm looking for a crease or a dent. Next cell phone I get...I'm getting with a cam so I have a cam to document anything if nessecary.

Camaro gets parked right in the middle of 2 spaces! If we're in the volvo it gets paked normally but people are aleays nockin there doors against usually old or fat people that open the door as far as it will go & crack it right into your door, even if u're sat in the car! Last people to do that was some kids pissin about in an SUV kept openin & closin the door then banged it, so out shouted watch the f**kin door, when their parents came back they buggered off so i just slammed the door right in to theirs, shredding about 3inches of paint out of their nice shiny silver paintwork & drove off!

In the very back. At school, work, stores, everywhere. They key to parking far away is to park far, but not make it look obvious that you tried to avoid everyone. Then you make yourself a target. So no double spot taking for me. I dont mind if other people park next to me, as long as there nicer cars and the owners are obviously doing the same thing Im doing and wont fling their doors around.
I know my car is old and dosent look pretty at all, but its mine nad also happens to be the most expensive thing I own. So Im not going to leave it at mercy to the dumbfucks. If I ever saw someone hit my car, I'd go apeshit.
why is it that the shittiest car in the f'in parking lot always parks next to you? I fuckin double parked at the mall in the VERY back, no cars for at least 100 yds in any direction and this crappy taurus parks next to me double parking also so that he's about 3 feet from my door ARRRRG

Because theres always a jackass that sees someone that is trying to park far away and parks nexts to them just to piss them off. Thats why you need to not park so far away. Yes, I know I have thought about this way too much.

I park away from other cars and if I am in a shitty mood I will hog two spaces. I also carry a socket wrench, but just the wrench part just in case somebody decided to be a fucktard and hit my car. I always check my car doors before I get into my car if someone does park next to me.

I dont know what it is but I always park at the back of the lot and when I come back from whatever Im doing cars seem a way of parking right next to mine when they have 20+ spots closer. My uncle had a beautiful millenium edition porsche 911 (changed like 8 colors, but much better looking than "chamelion" paint) and he left it at the airport only to get keyed up.. Porsche had to fly someone from germany to repaint it.

At the mall it's usually away from other cars, but that's because when I go it's only when I know it won't be busy (I hate malls). Since it's not busy, parking away from other cars is still only a 2 minute walk from the entrance. At school I take what I can get, although I recently found a semi-secret place to park that only 3-4 other people know about. It used to be construction-only, but now the constructions done. Woot!

If some dick parks way to close when there is plenty of room elsewhere (and if I'm in a real bad mood) I do the most inconveniencing thing. I take my swiss army knife and us the punch on their tire. Small enough hole, no permanant damage that can't be easily patched up by a tire shop. It just eats a shit load of time for them. Hope they weren't in a rush

I park in BFE.. Some pricks at work decided to park so close to my car one day it was impossible for me to get in without going through the trunk.. So I did just that backed up my mirrors were Milimeters away from theirs.
After I back it up I saw everyone laughing at the entrance to work. I drove off went around the block and came back. Opened my middle console and grabbed my tool and proceeded to pull the cores out of each of their valve stems. Drove off with 8 valve stem cores and droped them on the highway on the way home.

I know man, I know. It happens to me too. That all too familiar feeling of walking out of the mall or wherever you are, and walking towards your car.... as you get closer you realize this piece of shit right beside you. Of all the spots to park at, they had to park beside you. I feel like spitting on those cars.
Talking about spitting... have you guys ever noticed the odd "things" that may happen to your car after it's been parked for some time in the same spot? Like in my underground garage, I once found someone spit all over my windshield. For no good reason, and I was parked in my own enclosed spot. I am convinced there are those jealous mf's out there who feel the need to lash out against people with nice cars. Not that my car is top of the line, but somne people act weird when they see a nice clean and well taken care of vehicle, like they need to mess it up or throw a cigarette butt on it, or piss near it, I dunno. Sounds insane, but there are bastards like this out there.

I park as far away from everyone as possible, one nice summer afternoon I decided to drive the T/A to work, (Wrong Move) why, I had not had any fun with her in about a week or so. I dive to work and I see all the others cars as close to the doors of the plant (Sikorsky) as possible. I look around and see four clear rows of beautiful space so I pick one that will still be away from anyone who comes looking for a spot after I’m inside working. Time to go home, I go outside and after I clear the mass confusion of cars I see my baby and there is not a car around it, she was all by her self the whole time right……..
No there is this white car, not only is it next to mine, like it was trying to bleed the life force off of my baby or something. Also this parasite is park on my driver side. Now do I have to tell you guys how long the doors are on these cars? I didn’t think so, now I’m pissed as I walking up to my car to see what dum@zz parked right next to me with all this space (you could have a pro football game in this area and not hit a single car.)
Oh my God, not only is the car on the driver side of mine, this car is an 87-89 Camero WTF!
This guy should know better then this, so a I squeeze in to my little lady and go home, cause I’m one who take things to the extreme, so I didn’t do anything but I’ll fine whoever owns that car, about 2 month go buy and I’m at work again, but I drive the my Honda now, one of my co-works come up to me an says this guy wanted to meet you I told him you had a T/A, I ask him what he was driving and he said a white Camero, I asked if he had park under a SOM T/A a few months back and he said yeah was that your car?................................... I lit into his @zz so bad he walked away with tears in his eye, my foreman came running over he thought there was a fight or something, this guy need to be told about himself, I’m sure he will not be doing that ever again.

I park AWAY from shopping carts.
One time when my car was 3 months old, i came out of work and removed a leaf off of my bumper by the rear wheel. I looked up and there was a huge fold in my quarter panel! and the bumper had spider webb lines! WTF!!!
It must of happened in a parking lot days ago, But i didnt notice cause it was raining for 3 days straight(gotta love long island weather).
It looked like it was caused by someone pulling into a spot next to me, but DAM HOW DUMB CAN YOU FUCKING BE! - $800 in damage.
If i knew the car that did it, I would have fucked it up royally!

This happened in my old POS Buick, some guy in a clean Escalade truck parked about 3" from my driver's side. Climbed in the passenger side and slammed that door open as hard as I could. Pulled up 2", slammed that door again. Left the door open and let it drag for about 3 feet. Left a nice red crease in both of his passenger side doors.

I don't drive my Camaro every day. I have a daily beater for navigating mall parking lots. My Camaro has some paint chips and scratches, but I don't really care. I’m sure a body shop could PDR those couple dings in the drivers side quarter panel, and buff out all the scratches. I'm just not concerned enough to have it done. It’s a 6 year old F body, not a damn Ferrari. I don't even notice when the drag radials kick up stones all over the rear bumper anymore, and I probably wouldn't notice a new scratch here or there. It’s just a car in my eyes. I enjoy the car, but it certainly isn't my prized possession. I sure as hell don't take up more than one parking spot, I’ve always thought that was a pompous dick head thing to do.

I try my best not to park next to people, I want people to see my car. Every parking lot is a car show. Once I parked pretty far away when I went to wal mart, no other cars were around. the price of your car really doesn't mean shit...some people just try to take care of their things, whether they're worth $5k or $50K.
and that's quite a double-standard that you've set there....it's ok for you to double park if your car costs $60K+, but it's not ok if it doesn't? WTF is that? bullshit. it's NEVER ok to double park. period. especially in crowded parking lots where spaces are scarce.
HOWEVER, i will agree with you that people should not park near everyone else if they don't want their shit dinged up...if it's THAT important to you, you can walk all the way across the parking lot to keep your car safe....the exercise will probably do you good anyway....
