Default Lt1 vs. Ls1

In a race, how much modifications on an lt1 would it take to destroy an ls1?

well if your racing an LS1 you better come correct my lt1 is now a stroked 396 and is faster then my cammed and full bolt on ls1 but not by much. i would say you need a nice cam, and a little go..go..juice.

Headers back exhaust, cai, tune and tires will destroy a stock one in a quarter mile race.

On the highway.. I'd suggest headers back, cai, tune, gears/stall. That'll run past them.

Just a forewarning.. this thread is going to become a pissing match.

I agree, needless to say, The LS1 is just better technology. I love it but my LT1 is basically the same as the first small block chevy engine, from the 50s. FROM THE 50s. and the LS1 is completely different, it just shares cylinder spacing. That is it.

Basically its like comparing a old apple computer from the mid 80s to the dell I am using right now. although that is really exaggerated.

I am sad now

You definately won't destroy a stock LS1 with longtubes, gears, CAI and a tune. This might make it a good race however. To "destroy" an LS1 you'll need a little juice on top of it, or heads/cam and sticky tires.

well basically, longtubes, catback, cai, tune, will get an lt1 to about the same power level as an ls1, add gears and/or stall and it should take a stock ls1. definitely would not destroy it though

I raced a couple of LS1's that didn't expect an LT1 to make any kind of race. With cai, headers, catback, drag radials, and a couple other small things, I took them. It wasn't by a whole lot, maybe a car length by an 1/8 mile, but still pulled on them the whole time.

if we're talking brute power and part availability 1st gen chevy for the win, and you can go confirm that with pro drag racers if you'd like.

as for the original question. what kind of ls1/lt1? manual vs manual? auto vs manual? it can make a big diff on the conditions of the race... lt1 is a great motor that can make ridiculous amounts of power just like the ls1 but to "destroy" one i would have to say a nice pcm tune and some simple intake/exhuast. add a cam and you'd be gone... but what is the sense in this thread anyway? you making beef with a local ls1 or are you comparing both the cars head to head for reference sake?

headers, cai, stall converter, and gears and you should decimate a stock ls1.

In order to "decimate" an LS1, you better be pulling mid to high 12's. At the track I don't usually see "most" people pulling those kind of times with an LT1 and the above mods. A converter and gears will help alot, but headers and a CAI aren't going to make up for the 40+ rwhp advantage a stock LS1 has over an LT1. The above mods might put an LT1 close, but to "decimate" your gonna need more than that.

stall plus gears can knock off easily .6 to 1 second...thats in the ballpark
most stock ls1 at the track only run 13.0 -13.4

Headers (LTs) are usually good for 15-25 depending on car, cai 10-15, I think you could see 40 hp just from those in a best case scenario, if you had a catback as well.

So we agree! Those aren't enough mods to "decimate" an LS1. Maybe keep up, but not "decimate!"

LTs, catback, CAI and tuning make just under 300 rwhp in an LT1 on average btw... stall and gears on top of that and an LS1 is toast. You'd walk one with either of the two mods.

To run with them in the quarter all you really need is a set of tires and a cai/catback. You'll run low-mid 13s if you can drive worth a ****. Get some LCAs and headers (maybe a mail-order tune) and you'll run 12s - again if you can drive.

Any one is goin to say anything on here, with this type of thread.... A friend of mine has a 2002 LS1 SS. When I was running the shorty headers, a custom Induction CAI, TB Bypass, and the new springs + rims and tires, I could beat him by about a car length. He had me off the line, but mine would pull ahead and stay there. Now, it dominates LS1 Corvettes.

Not worth it. I think in the end it would be cheaper to just buy a LS1 car.
