I broke a tap off in the shaft that the pulley mounts to. How the hell do I get it out

with one of these (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=15612) the little arms go into the tap flutes and pull it out

The only real alternative is about a day, a whole box of drill bits and a lot of patience.

I wish you luck with the tap extractor, you may need more than one. I've been a machinist for 33 years and have had limit success with them. All I can say is clean what you can of the threads. Any broken particles of the tap will cause it to jam. I've used punches to break a stubborn tap into manageable parts. Be sure to wear safety glasses when breaking up hardened tools. I knew one person who went to the hospital with a half dozen tiny pieces of a tap embedded in his arm. He wasn't aware the little chunks stinging his arm were actually going through the skin.

There is a machinist here at the battalion, she got it out for me. Thanks everyone
