I don't think it tells you when the clutch goes bad or runs thin. How would they even put a sensor on something like a clutch?
So, dunno really.

its a switch under the dash on the drivers side. When you press the clutch pedal down to start the car, the shaft of the pedal hits that switch to allow you to start the car. I would get that checked because it can leave you stranded.

Actually the switch on the bottom that the pedal hits when it is all the way down will not throw a code. It's a neutral safety switch, if it goes bad it won't start.

You can get a code for the clutch pedal anticipation switch which is above the clutch pedal. It disengages cruise control, if it's bad your cruise control won't work.

Maybe 0704 - clutch switch input circuit malfunction.
I did an M6 swap and never hooked that up, drove it for an hour before it threw the code.

Nothing, I plugged in my laptop and deleted the code.
But later decided to get cruise control to work so I hooked it up.
Sounds like in your case the switch is just bad.

Well if it is the switch I am thinking of, it is a white plastic piece that is threaded so you can adjust it in relation to clutch pedal position. Going from memory here but I had to adjust it one of the times I had my transmission out. Car would start but I couldn't use cruise control. If it is the same part you will have to remove the kick panel to even see it but when you do it will be obvious. Hopes this helps and I am not spewing BS.

98 Z28 M6 not enough mods to mention

In my opinion you need to remove the kick panel and the panel right below the steering column. With that out of the way, follow the clutch pedal shaft up until you see a white plastic switch/button. The switch/button will be mounted in a bracket right in front of the clutch pedal shaft. With the clutch pedal up the button should be pressed in. Even if it looks like the button and shaft are making contact you may still need to adjust it. This is done by turning the switch, it is threaded into the bracket that holds it. You might also check the wire for a bad or loose connection. It really is easier than it sounds. LOL. Again I hope it helps, I really think this is all you need to do because it is a very simple set up and it isn't subjected to any harsh conditons so I don't think the switch itself is bad. Good luck and keep us posted.

Just unplug the wire connector and turn the switch until it just gets a very little bit tight. The easiest way to look at it is from the passenger side angle but this is misleading because you might think the switch and pedal contact each other. Thats not true, there is a bracket on the drivers side of the pedal arm that works the switch.
If it's adjusted right you can hear a small click by pushing the pedal a little.
