Crappy Gas mileage!!

Default Crappy Gas mileage!!

I get about 24mpg in my hybrid LS1 (MT) RX7 driving extremely gently and not romping on it.I was hoping for some advice based on numbers LS1scan gave me. I forgot to check for codes. Here is what LS1Scan is showing typically:

LTFT1 12
LTFT2 9
MAP 26
Spark Advance 38
IAT 27
MAF 16.32
TPS 9
O2 2 970
O2 1 890
KR 0
FTCell 0
MAF Fr 3675
Ipw1 206
Ipw2 198
LTFT1 8
LTFT2 7

Do any of those numbers sound odd? Especially the spark advance?! This was highway driving in 6th gear with no load on the engine. I don't know why LTFT1 and LTFT2 are shown twice with different numbers but that's what LS1Scan spits out.

I'd appreciate any help with this matter! I swear it didn't run this poorly before!

need codes.... now me... 24mpg I'm envious (382 in slightly lightened F-Body, w/3.73 gears, and no locking converter can suck for gas mileage )

none of the info above means anything (at least not to me... looks like just freezeframe data)

If you are setting an SES.. I would bet it's for a front O2 ... a front O2 SES will cause the car to go open loop which will kill gas mileage

It's going to closed loop, and I just replaced the driver's side O2 sensor. I was just wondering if any of those numbers were way off since I don't know what's typical. I just checked DTC's and this is what I got:

1:04:49,3 , DTC RAW , 1, 0, 18, 0, 6, 80, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0
1:04:49,3 , DTC RAW , 1, 0, 19, 1, 6, 80, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 01:04:49,3 , DTC # = 650, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0

whats your rear gears?

for a 50/50 mix of city/Hwy that is about right..... more hwy should bring ya closer to low 30s mpg... all city is usally around 20...

This is PURE highway, 2100rpms, with a 4:10 rear gear ratio, rear O2's eliminated. No mods to engine from what I know except underdrive pulley and new flywheel and clutch.

99.9% here (or anywhere.... ) won't be able to understand that.... (most don't understand how to read raw output from the PCM)

Rig up a temp OBDII terminal ... and get it scanned by a GM tool ....

all of the data you posted is freeze frame type data... usless for diagnostics..... 6th gear w/38* of timing... what was TPS, what was MAP, what was MAF (if you're running one) ... what was IAT? etc.... 6th gear * 38* sounds like at that instance in time you were under very light (decel prolly) load


w/out useful data ..... not much anyone here can do...

not sure what this LS1Scan software does (so far seems to do nothing useful for diagnosing problems) but ... may wanna consider hooking up a temp OBDII port and running some software (HPT, EFI, heck... even Autotap) that would provide useful output (and logged over time output)

My apologies, I assumed wrongly that one line of output with typical data would tell you anything. I have attached a log file from LS1scan, I hope this helps.

Thank you for putting up with me. As far as the DTC codes, that's just what LS1Scan gives me :\ I'll look into finding out what it means

Back in the day I used LS1 Edit & Scan. The beta scan is unusable for any real tuning. The LS1 spark table is mapped against cyl air and the LS1 scan doesn't have this pid. I now have HP Tuners Tunershop with the MVPI Pro that is hooked up to a FJO wideband O2 sensor. If you really want to see what the car is doing, this is it.

Agreed, get a good scan tool. Otherwise you will be limited to talking with other edit users. Of which I think the last one on this board just changed product

thats half your problem right there.

2100 RPMs on the hwy isnt as efficent as 1800rpms...


something ive noticed over time...a M6 car with 3.73s gets about the same milage as the same car with 3.42s.. but put 4.10s in it, and its a large diff from the 3.73s..


im not saying you're not running rich or that theres not some other problem, there still could be. but dont expect 30mpg with 4.10s at any highway speed that puts you over 2000RPMs....

Man, I was afraid to hear that. I knew LS1scan wasn't the greatest just from using it, but since I bought LS1 edit a while back I figured I should use it. Oh well, that sucks.

I know the 4:10 would make a difference, but didn't know it would be that bad. I hear some backfire occasionally when I floor it so I'm guessing I'm still running rich. I'm thinking of just taking the car to a tuner next week and perhaps get some more hp and some advice. I think the previous owner of the engine (it's from a wrecked trans-am) did some modificatinos, like porting the MAF and ediiting some of the PCM data, though I'm not sure if he changed the cam or anything else. A dyno tune should at least give me a clue. I've heard porting the MAF is a bad idea from a tuning standpoint so I wonder if that has something to do with it as well.
