Default problem with idle...help?

ok i posted this in internal but i didnt really get a response...so here i go, i have a 99 a4 ls1, when it warms up or if i drive it on the highway and get off and just drive around the oil pressure gauge jiggles...or ticks...take ur pick, i know its still in the good range at warm up...30-40, but it ticks and moves and when it does so the idle is kinda rough, i do need to change out my wires and plugs, id see how that would help an idle, but i dont see how that could effect the oil psi if that was it? oil pump?, think about it this way, u have the 20 mark then the 40 , make a line in between and call it 30, it ticks between 30-40 pretty easy, just didnt think it should move that much...any thoughts?

when the guage drops, yes it does, its flicks about 10psi and when it hits the lower psi around 30 it thumps or slaps, enough to where you can feel it

Either check your oil pressure with a separate gauge or replace your sending unit and see if you get the same result.

If you are getting thumping or slapping you may actually have low oil pressure. That is not a good situation. You may have a bad oil pump.

Good Luck!!

well i was driving it around today, and the oil psi when warmed up is around 20-30 thats kinda low, so if it is my pump, wheres that located in the engine itself? and how much to do shops usually charge to do it? i know they run about 180 a unit.

i just got my ported ls6 oil pump from TSP, it was like 160 ??? not sure on the price but it shouldn't matter either way, it needs to be done or you will be paying more for a blown engine being repaired if you plan on doing a cam or anything in the future, i definately recommend the ported ls6 too by the way.

Is the gauge ticking, the gauge may have a problem internally. I think its a good idea to check the engine out and check the actual oil pressure first, then proceed to the gauge and or sending unit.

yea a guys going to run efi live on it tomm. i would go with the idea of the guage being messed up, but the problem with that is when it does get down around 25psi it ticks and you can feel a difference in the engine to

How many miles do you have? What ticks, the engine or the guage? If its the engine your pump is probably giving out, your lucky your getting a warning if it is, I've never heard of that. I'd get it replaced soon if thats the case, may aswell do a cam too!
