Default What size Cam?

I'm going to need your guys help. I want to put a cam in my car. What would be the best to let me still have decent gas mileage? I want my car pretty fast..(I want to be able to smoke my ex's..he always said I would never get my car to beat his). I want like 15ish gas milage. Thanks guys!

What are the specs on your ex's car?? I havent figured out mileage yet on my M6 SS but i just had the torquer V2 installed and i dynoed right around 390hp 380tq. I think its pretty fast, from a 80 mile drive...half which was rush hour traffic i went through about a 1/4 tank. Sounds sick too. Good luck, p.s if gas mileage is something your looking for, you should look into a beater w/ a 4cyl or something.

Well I want to drive my T/A all the time. I don't know the specs. It's a Joe Overton cam that's all I know.

What are some decent cams on gas milage...if I have to lose alot of milage it will be fine.

You should do exhaust first to your car if it has stock manifolds. That there is a gas robber. Bolt on cars are alot of fun, I miss those days.

I have always heard that with a GOOD tune, almost any came will give you good gas mileage. So my suggestion is get what you want.

I did the lid and K&N first with all of the free mods. Then I did the headers y pipe and cut out. I did the mac headers and Y pipe. the Mac headers are mid length so you get the HP and they dont get all tore up when you go over a speed bump. Cam this is just for me because I drive it everyday although you may want to go another way I went with the lingenfelter sleeper cam listed in the signature it is a stealthy cam what I meen is that you cant even tell you have a cam but you can definately feel it I guarantee you will feel it when you install it all through the RPM's the springs have to go in also just a heads up. I also installed wider rear wheels and Nitto drags. I am not finished yet I am working on he throttle body and the intake and last the tune. The cam is great for me. When i buy anither car I can drive everyday I might go bigger but for now it serves its purpose very well.

Beastly sound is cool. I just want mine to sound mean, but also be mean.

lol,

15mpg, I'm sure I could get worse than that out of a stock LS1 it all depends how you drive it

If you want a fast car do all the bolt ons (lid, intake, TB, headers, catback) plus a sensible cam for your needs. Are you auto or M6?

Gears will help especially with an M6 if auto you'll want a decent stall. Matching the cam to the setup will be beneficial and ulitmatley faster.

Will it be roll racing or at a track from a dig? PEAK HP isn't always the fastest setup and having more low and mid range grunt can be a much better setup for roll racing.

Finally add a 100-125 shot of nitrous just in case

Any cam over 220 you can hear lope at idle. Depends on how it's tuned for idle. I just put in the TR 224/224 and love the idle, it's up a bit but when it finds it's idle sitting at a light, you can hear my cam. Had a guy in a Civic say "Wow that things camming" I said it's just alittle one, didn't mention the heads on my car though LOL.

Just remember, added power breaks ****. 10 bolts are easy yet expensive victims.

Don't forget LSA, the lower the lobe separation, the beastlier the idle. IE a 112 LSA cam with otherwise identical specs as a cam with a 114 LSA will have a much more menacing idle.

Hot cam is a 219/228 on a 112 and has a BEAST idle with a very low mainantance worry about changing valvesprings with the .525 lift they are a very decent cam for the price. 430 for cam springs and retainers!
